- Position Title: Project Engineering Manager
- Location: Abu Dhabi / Engineering Centers (India/UAE)
- Reporting To: Project Director
- Functional Reporting: Engineering Director / Corporate Engineering Head
- Direct Reports:
- Discipline Engineering Managers (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation, Process)
- Engineering Coordinators
- Design & Document Control Team
- Role Purpose
To lead and manage the
entire engineering function of the project, ensuring:
- Timely delivery of all engineering deliverables
- Full compliance with technical specifications and standards
- Seamless integration across disciplines and project phases
- Alignment of engineering outputs with procurement, fabrication, and construction requirements
- Detailed Key Responsibilities
3.1 Engineering Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement the Engineering Execution Plan (EEP)
- Define:
- Engineering work breakdown structure (WBS)
- Deliverable schedule aligned with project milestones
- Establish engineering resource plan and staffing
3.2 Engineering Delivery Management
- Ensure timely preparation, review, and approval of:
- Design calculations
- Drawings and specifications
- Datasheets and material requisitions
- Monitor engineering progress against:
- Level 2 / Level 3 schedules
- Ensure adherence to engineering KPIs and milestones
3.3 Multi-discipline Coordination
- Lead coordination across:
- Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation disciplines
- Resolve:
- Interdisciplinary design conflicts
- Interface issues between systems
- Ensure consistency and integration of design outputs
3.4 Engineering Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with:
- Project Quality Plan
- Customer standards
- International codes (ASME, API, ISO, IEC)
- Conduct:
- Design reviews
- Independent checking and verification
- Ensure Right First Time design philosophy
3.5 Procurement Engineering Support
- Ensure timely issuance of:
- Material Requisitions (MRs)
- Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs)
- Support procurement in:
- Vendor selection and approvals
- Review vendor drawings and documents
3.6 Construction & Fabrication Support
- Ensure engineering deliverables support:
- Fabrication sequences
- Construction methodologies
- Resolve:
- Site queries (Field Engineering Queries – FEQs)
- Technical issues during fabrication
- Provide site engineering support during execution
3.7 Offshore Installation & Commissioning Support
- Support engineering requirements for:
- Load-out and installation
- Hook-up and commissioning
- Ensure readiness of:
- System documentation
- Red-line markups and as-built updates
3.8 Interface Management (Critical for Mega Projects)
- Identify and manage engineering interfaces across:
- Internal disciplines
- External contractors and packages
- Coordinate with Interface Manager for:
- Interface resolution and tracking
- Ensure engineering deliverables align with interface requirements
3.9 Schedule Integration & Project Controls
- Coordinate with Planning Manager for:
- Engineering schedule development and updates
- Ensure engineering deliverables are aligned with:
- Procurement timelines
- Fabrication milestones
- Monitor engineering impact on critical path and LD milestones
3.10 Change Management & Technical Governance
- Manage engineering changes through:
- Formal change control processes
- Evaluate impact of changes on:
- Cost
- Schedule
- Technical integrity
- Support Contracts Manager in:
- Technical inputs for variations and claims
3.11 Risk Management (Engineering Risks)
- Identify and manage engineering-related risks such as:
- Design changes
- Late deliverables
- Technical uncertainties
- Support Risk Manager in:
- Risk assessments and mitigation planning
3.12 Digital Engineering & Systems
- Implement and manage:
- Engineering management systems
- EDMS (Aconex or similar)
- Support digital initiatives such as:
- 3D modeling / BIM
- Smart plant systems
- Ensure document control and revision tracking
3.13 Client & Stakeholder Interface
- Interface with:
- Lead:
- Design reviews and workshops
- Ensure timely incorporation of client comments and approvals
3.14 Team Leadership & Resource Management
- Lead and manage multi-location engineering teams
- Ensure:
- Adequate staffing and competency
- Performance monitoring and development
- Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability
- Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical / Civil / Electrical / Process)
- Master's Degree (preferred)
- 20–25+ years of experience in EPC Oil & Gas projects
- Minimum 8–10 years in Engineering Management roles
- Proven experience in:
- Mega projects (>USD 1B; preferably 3B+)
- Offshore and brownfield projects
- Strong Middle East experience
