The English Foundation Program serves as the academic bridge to undergraduate study by preparing students for success through intensive instruction in academic English, quantitative reasoning, and university learning skills.

Position Summary

The English Foundation Program at American International University (AIU) prepares students for success in English-medium degree programs through an intensive curriculum grounded in evidence-based pedagogy, active learning, and continuous improvement.

The program emphasizes academic communication, critical thinking, learner autonomy, and the academic skills necessary for success in undergraduate study. Instruction is intentionally designed, evidence-informed, and aligned with clearly articulated Student Learning Outcomes.

We seek faculty who approach teaching as a scholarly, evidence-informed practice and who are committed to advancing student learning through intentional course design, meaningful assessment, and continuous improvement. Successful candidates understand that effective instruction is outcomes-driven, informed by evidence of student learning, and strengthened through scholarly teaching, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, TEFL, or a closely related discipline
  • Minimum of three years of English language teaching experience
  • Experience preparing students for academic study in English or English-medium education
  • Native or near-native English proficiency

Preferred Qualifications

  • University Foundation Programs, Intensive English Programs (IEPs), English for Academic Purposes (EAP), or other English-medium higher education contexts
  • Evidence-based, student-centered pedagogy and active learning
  • Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), constructive alignment, and outcomes-based curriculum and assessment
  • Formative assessment and data-informed instructional decision-making
  • Educational technology and the pedagogically appropriate integration of artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Accreditation, quality assurance, curriculum review, and continuous improvement

Responsibilities

Faculty members are expected to contribute to teaching, curriculum development, assessment, and institutional service. Responsibilities include:

  • Teach up to 20 contact hours per week.
  • Design and deliver student-centered instruction using evidence-based pedagogical practices aligned with Student Learning Outcomes.
  • Develop, administer, and evaluate assessments use formative assessment and student learning data to inform instruction and continuous improvement.
  • Integrate educational technologies, including the appropriate use of artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance teaching and learning while maintaining academic integrity.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, assessment, and student records, and hold regular office hours to support student success.
  • Participate in curriculum development, placement testing, program assessment, and accreditation activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote consistency in curriculum, assessment, and academic standards.
  • Participate in professional development, committee service, and other academic responsibilities as assigned.
