Job Title: Lead Instrument and Controls Engineer

KBR is growing its Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team for an exciting, high profile offshore development in Abu Dhabi. The ADNOC PMC project role would be based initially in Client or Contractors Office in Abu Dhabi.

Job Purpose

The Lead Instrument & Controls Engineer is responsible for leading all Instrumentation, Control Systems, Functional Safety, and Automation engineering activities for ADNOC Offshore projects. The role ensures the delivery of safe, reliable, cost-effective, and compliant engineering solutions throughout FEED, Detailed Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, and Start-up phases.

The position provides technical leadership for offshore process control systems, safety instrumented systems (SIS), distributed control systems (DCS), emergency shutdown systems (ESD), fire and gas systems (F&G), telecommunications interfaces, and field instrumentation for offshore oil and gas facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate Instrumentation & Control engineering activities across the project lifecycle.
  • Manage a team of I&C engineers, designers, and specialists.
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with project schedules, quality standards, and ADNOC Offshore requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and supervision to engineering personnel.
  • Review and approve all I&C engineering deliverables.

Instrumentation Engineering

  • Develop and review:
    • Instrument Index
    • I/O Lists
    • Instrument Datasheets
    • Instrument Specifications
    • Hook-up Drawings
    • Instrument Layout Drawings
    • Cable Schedules
    • Loop Diagrams
    • Cause & Effect Matrices
    • Instrument Location Plans
  • Ensure proper selection and specification of field instruments for offshore service conditions.

    • HAZOP Reviews

    • Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
    • Functional Safety Assessments (FSA)
  • Develop and review:
    • Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS)
    • SIL Verification Reports
    • Cause & Effect Diagrams
    • Shutdown Philosophies
  • Ensure compliance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 standards.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Prepare technical requisitions and datasheets for I&C equipment.
  • Conduct technical bid evaluations.
  • Review vendor documents and drawings.
  • Resolve technical queries from suppliers.
  • Monitor vendor performance and compliance with project requirements.

    • Offshore Production Platforms
    • Wellhead Towers
    • Artificial Islands
    • Gas Compression Facilities
    • Water Injection Facilities
    • Pipeline Systems
    • Subsea Facilities
  • Support tie-in activities and shutdown execution.
  • Coordinate modifications to live operating facilities.

Construction, Commissioning & Start-Up Support

  • Participate in:
    • Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
    • Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
    • Integrated FAT (IFAT)
    • Loop Checks
    • Pre-Commissioning Activities
    • Commissioning and Start-Up
  • Review commissioning procedures and test protocols.
  • Provide technical support during site execution phases.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with:
    • ADNOC Offshore Standards
    • ADNOC Specifications
    • IEC Standards
    • ISA Standards
    • API Standards
    • ISO Standards
    • UAE Regulatory Requirements
  • Support project audits and design reviews.
  • Ensure quality assurance procedures are followed throughout engineering activities.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Master's Degree is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of Instrumentation & Control Engineering experience in Oil & Gas projects.
  • Minimum 5-8 years in a Lead I&C Engineer role on offshore EPC/EPCM projects.
  • Proven experience with ADNOC Offshore, ADNOC Onshore, Saudi Aramco, QatarEnergy, or other major offshore operators.
  • Experience in both greenfield and brownfield offshore developments.
