Job Description

Mill Fitter
 
Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009, and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
 
The Role
 
  • The Mill Fitter ensures the reliability, availability, and optimal performance of milling and related mechanical equipment at Sukari through effective maintenance execution, technical troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
  • Working closely with operations and engineering, the role leads preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on SAG and ball mills, pumps, pebble crushers, conveyors, and other Process plant mechanical assets, while upholding strict safety and compliance standards.

The Key Responsibilities
 
  • Maintenance execution: Lead preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on SAG/ball mills, pumps, pebble crushers, conveyors, and Process plant mechanical equipment.
  • Equipment reliability: Monitor condition and performance to detect wear, failures, and inefficiencies; drive actions to maximize availability and throughput.
  • Technical troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical failures, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to restore performance.
  • Continuous improvement: Identify and deliver improvements to maintenance practices, cost, and asset care strategies to enhance uptime.
  • Safety and compliance: Enforce risk assessments, permit-to-work, isolation, and confined-space procedures in line with site and regulatory standards.
  • Training and leadership: Share technical knowledge, deliver on-the-job coaching, and support development of maintenance personnel.
  • Planning and coordination: Prioritize work, ensure shift coverage and breakdown response, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
 
The Requirements
 
  • Qualified Artisan Fitter/Turner/Millwright from a recognized trade institution.
  • 15+ years hands-on industrial maintenance experience after artisan qualification, preferably in milling and gold Process plant environments.
  • 3–5 years in a supervisory or team lead role with shift planning and task delegation.
  • Strong knowledge of SAG and ball mills, gearboxes, hydraulic lubrication units, rotating equipment, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Proficient in preventive/predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Capability in disassembly, repair, reassembly, and laser/manual alignment.
  • Familiarity with CMMS and strong HSE knowledge including lockout/tagout and confined-space procedures; working knowledge of ISO 45001 or equivalent.
  • Experience in gold processing plant sectors is required.
  • Valid driver's license and international driver's licence suitable for site permits.
