Job Title: Senior Substation Technical Office Engineer
Job Purpose
The Senior Technical Office Engineer – Substation is responsible for the technical management of substation projects (AIS/GIS, HV/MV/LV) from the technical office side, including design coordination, shop drawing review, quantity take-off, material submittals, and technical support to site execution teams. The role ensures all engineering deliverables comply with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and prepare substation design drawings, shop drawings, and as-built drawings in coordination with design consultants and site teams.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs (QTO) and material take-offs (MTO) for substation civil, electrical, and mechanical works.
- Review and process technical submittals, material approvals, and RFIs (Requests for Information) with clients and consultants.
- Coordinate with procurement to ensure technical specifications of substation equipment (transformers, switchgear, GIS/AIS panels, cables, protection & control systems) meet project requirements.
- Support site execution teams by resolving technical queries and providing engineering clarifications during construction.
- Prepare and review method statements, technical specifications, and inspection & test plans (ITPs) related to substation works.
- Ensure compliance with relevant international codes and standards (IEC, IEEE, NFPA, ECS/ECP as applicable).
- Coordinate interface between civil, electrical, and instrumentation & control disciplines for substation works.
- Support cost estimation and technical proposals for tenders involving substation scope.
- Track variations, technical claims, and change orders related to substation works in coordination with the commercial/QS team.
- Maintain technical documentation, drawing registers, and submittal logs.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior technical office engineers.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power) or related discipline.
- Minimum 4-7 years of experience in substation projects (AIS/GIS), with at least 2–3 years in a senior/technical office substation role.
- Proven experience with EPC contractors or major construction companies in the power/energy sector.
- Experience working on projects in Egypt and/or GCC countries (KSA, UAE, Oman) is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of HV/MV/LV substation design principles and equipment (transformers, switchgear, protection & control, GIS/AIS).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with design software (ETAP, PLS-CADD, or similar) is a plus.
- Strong quantity take-off and BOQ preparation skills.
- Familiarity with international standards (IEC, IEEE, NFPA) and local regulatory codes.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Project) and document control systems.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams (civil, electrical, procurement, site).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (Arabic is a plus).
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple project deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation discipline.
