Job Description

Job Purpose

Review, study, supervise, and provide operational, technical, and engineering expertise on different elements

which include, but not limited to, process control, advanced process control (APC), optimization (RTO),

digitalization and higher level applications, alarm management, Laboratory information management system

(LIMS) and process information management system (PI) to contribute in ensuring high reliability, performance,

profitability, sustainability, and efficiency in the Company's operations in line with the set HSE standards.

Key Accountabilities

Process Automation Engineering

  • Review, study and provide technical and engineering expertise in the field of Process Automation

covering base layer process control, control loop performance assessment, advanced process control,

real time optimization, alarm management system, digitalization and automation to contribute in

increasing the Plant's performance and reducing the operating costs.

  • Review and recommend, on a periodic basis, improvements to Process Automation systems in

compliance with the OT/IT security policies and OEM standards to prevent cyber security threats.

  • Facilitate the implementation of procedures and controls covering all areas of process automation

activities at the Site to meet the planned output.

  • Develop and update the relevant procedures to maintain robust and consistent processes.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of existing process automation applications and systems in terms

of uptime, performance, monetary benefits, standardization, and obsolescence.

  • Conduct judicious analysis on various alternatives for optimum solutions to effectively support the

Plant's operations.

  • Lead/review the feasibility studies and proof of concepts, conducted by external consultants, to evaluate

the financial and technical viability of applications.

  • Lead the approved projects implementation, carried-out by external consultants, during different

activities and phases which include, but not limited to, the scope of work, tender documents, technical

bid evaluation, engineering, installation and commissioning.

  • Develop/review the scope of work to facilitate the process automation processes implementation in

conformity with HSE measures and OT security requirements.

  • Develop/lead the development performed by external consultants on new and existing applications

functional specifications, design, as-built documentation, user manuals, training materials and

maintenance procedures to ensure the effective utilization of systems and applications.

  • Review the CONCEPT and SELECT documents; and the changes in specifications for DEFINE phases

for technical projects related to process automation in line with the set specifications.

  • Review and approve the Process Control Narratives during the CONCEPT, SELECT and DEFINE

project phases.

  • Perform the troubleshooting on process automation systems and related applications to maximize their

availability and reliability.

  • Identify and implement optimization programs that enable the Plant to operate efficiently at optimum

conditions and with maximum yield.

  • Lead/ facilitate the alarm rationalization workshops and implement the recommendations in an effective

and timely manner to improve the alarm's performance.

  • Evaluate, technically, the vendors and contractors to support the Procurement Division in the prequalification

process, as required.

  • Conduct knowledge sharing sessions and trainings to contribute to the overall sustenance of the

process automation solutions.

  • Supervise the development of the new APC controllers and revamping of the existing controllers to

contribute in the improvement of the reliability, performance, profitability, sustainability, and efficiency

of the Plant's operations.

  • Supervise and lead the implementation of closed loop RTO; and ensure the availability and reliability of

existing RTO.

  • Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job

and deliver the respective functional objectives.

Budgets

  • Provide input for preparation of the functional budgets and assist in the implementation of the approved

Budget and work plans to deliver functional objectives.

  • Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures

  • Implement approved Section / Team / Department policies, processes, systems, standards and

procedures in order to support execution of the work programs in line with Company and International

standards.

Performance Management

  • Contribute to the achievement of the approved Performance Objectives for the function in line with the

Company Performance framework.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational

processes.

  • Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line

with best Industry standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.

Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Sustainability

  • Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures & controls and applicable legislation and sustainability

guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and ADNOC Code of Practices.

Reports

  • Provide inputs to prepare MIS and progress reports for Company Management.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical, Petrochemical, Process Control Engineering, or an equivalent

professional qualification.

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills

  • 8 years of experience in the field of process control and optimization within the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Solid knowledge about process control & optimization and process automation systems such as DCS,

BLPC, APC, RTO, CLPM, AMS, Dashboards, etc.

  • Working background in the implementation of, at least, 2 RTO and 4 APC projects and leading alarm

rationalization and suppression activities.

  • Sound knowledge and experience in the development, reviews, and execution of process control and

automation technical standards and procedures.

  • Knowledge of latest technological developments and their implications on business in view of the

variety of processes, DCS, and ICS control applications.

  • Extensive knowledge of guidelines and specifications for Process Control in the CONCEPT, SELECT,

and DEFINE project phases.

  • Good knowledge of relevant national and international regulations and standards.
  • Good knowledge of HSE principles and their applications relevant to Oil & Gas industry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, checking, examining, and recording.
