Job Description

Job Purpose

Coordinate the technical design, installation, and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems associated with piping (Plant) & pipeline construction projects, review technical deliverables, and provide guidance and support to instrumentation engineers. Ensure compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements while contributing to safe, reliable, and efficient operation of pipeline automation and control systems.

Job Duties

Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Activities

  • Contribute to the development of I&C design requirements for pipeline facilities, including valve stations, pump stations, scraper/launcher stations, and control buildings.
  • Coordinate and review feasibility studies, system architecture evaluations, and instrumentation-related risk assessments to support project decision-making.
  • Coordinate the design of instrumentation systems under the direction of the Construction Manager/ Project Manager, including measurement devices (pressure, flow, temperature, level), control valves, actuators, analysers, and process instrumentation loops.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings and documents such as P&IDs, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, instrument indexes, I/O lists, cause-and-effect matrices, and control narratives.
  • Support construction teams by clarifying instrumentation design requirements and addressing engineering queries during installation, calibration, and commissioning.
  • Participate in inspections, testing, and verification activities including loop checks, functional tests, and system integration testing to ensure adherence to design standards.
  • Review SCADA, PLC, and RTU configurations for pipeline facilities and support the integration of field instrumentation into centralized control systems.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of pipeline leak detection systems, shutdown logic, and automation strategies to ensure safe pipeline operation.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs for instrumentation and control systems to ensure long-term system reliability.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (Pipeline, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, QA/QC, Procurement, Operations) to resolve instrumentation-related technical issues and support smooth project execution.
  • Participate in technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, FAT/SAT activities, and engineering workshops (HAZOP/HAZID).
  • Stay updated with industry advancements, codes, and regulations related to pipeline design, construction, and maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 810 years of instrumentation & controls engineering experience in Oil & Gas projects, with strong exposure to piping (Plant) & pipeline construction.
  • In-Depth Knowledge of instrumentation and controls Design Codes, Standards, and Regulations.
  • Proficiency in I&C design tools, loop design software, and system integration tools.
  • Strong understanding of SCADA architecture, PLC/RTU systems, field instrumentation, and control logic for pipeline operations.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, control diagrams, vendor documentation, and technical specifications.
