Academic Advisor, NU-Q

Northwestern University in Qatar (NUQ) Academic Advisor will be highly motivated and will play a pivotal role in guiding, advising, and supporting the undergraduates in the journalism and communication programs. This position will report to the Director of Academic Advising and Student Success.

Specific Responsibilities

• Provide excellent and informed undergraduate advising regarding degree requirements for majors and minors, academic programs, and academic policies, including providing information regarding student academic support resources.
• Communicate University policies and deadlines.
• Conduct orientation sessions and meetings for students.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of processes for successful advising.
• Monitor progress to graduation and graduation requirements.
• Maintain accurate advising records and work with advising technology platforms.
• Participate in and contribute advising sessions for new student orientation, course fairs, and other student academic events.
• Advise students regarding the course registration process, the major and minor declaration process, and any changes to student status such as transfer or study abroad.
• Work with academic program directors to provide information regarding student registration needs.
• Work closely with the Division for the Student Affairs regarding student academic progress and student academic support and career planning.
• Organizing student success workshops.
• Process accommodation requests.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Occasional weekend and evening work activity expected.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies: :

• A bachelor's degree in media, journalism, communication, or related field from an accredited U.S. or American-style university.
• 1-3 years experience in academic advising services in an American or American-style institution.
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully and collaboratively with students, faculty, and administrators.
• Capacity to perform duties efficiently and according to strict timelines in a fast-paced environment
• Experience working with college students in a student-centered environment
  
  

Preferred Qualifications And Competencies

• An advanced degree in media, journalism, communication, or related field from an accredited U.S. or American-style university
• 3-5 years experience in academic advising or student academic support services in an American or American-style institution
• Previous experience with People Soft or STELLIC.
• Experience working in the Arab world and/or global south
• Fluency in Arabic
  
  

The target hiring range for this position will be between $56,780 to $73,200 per year. The offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data .
