The Air Freight Clearance Executive / Broker will be responsible for managing customs clearance activities for air freight shipments, ensuring accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and timely cargo release. The role will coordinate with customs authorities, airport cargo terminals, customers, and internal teams to facilitate smooth import, export, transit, and temporary admission processes.
Responsibilities:
1. Customs Documentation
- Prepare and submit customs declarations through relevant UAE customs systems, including Dubai Customs and Abu Dhabi Customs.
- Verify Air Waybills (AWB), Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Certificates of Origin, Import/Export Permits, Health Permits, and other required documents.
- Verify HS Codes and customs values to ensure accurate declarations and avoid clearance delays or penalties.
- Maintain accurate customs documentation and shipment records.
2. Air Freight Customs Clearance
- Process import, export, transit, and temporary admission customs declarations.
- Coordinate with customs officers during inspections and examinations.
- Arrange cargo release from airport cargo terminals following customs approval.
- Resolve customs queries, documentation discrepancies, and shipment holds promptly.
- Coordinate with airlines, airport cargo terminals, customers, and internal operations teams to ensure timely clearance.
3. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with UAE Customs regulations and applicable customs procedures.
- Ensure adherence to GCAA air cargo security requirements.
- Follow IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations where applicable.
- Coordinate required approvals for restricted cargo from relevant authorities, including Municipality, MOCCAE, Ministry of Health, and other government entities.
- Ensure all clearance activities comply with company SOPs and applicable regulatory requirements.
4. Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Provide customers with timely updates regarding customs clearance status and cargo release.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve operational and documentation issues.
- Proactively identify potential clearance delays and take corrective action.
- Maintain professional relationships with customs authorities, airlines, customers, and service providers.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience:
- 2–4 years of experience in air freight customs clearance, freight forwarding, or customs brokerage.
- Hands-on experience with UAE customs clearance procedures is preferred.
- Experience handling air cargo documentation and airport clearance processes.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of Dubai Customs and Abu Dhabi Customs systems and procedures.
- Strong understanding of Air Waybills, customs declarations, import/export documentation, and permits.
- Knowledge of HS Code classification and customs valuation.
- Familiarity with GCAA and IATA requirements is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
