AP Biology Teacher – Immediate Start

Primary Purpose

The American Baccalaureate School (ABS) is seeking an AP Biology Teacher for an immediate start.

The successful candidate will deliver rigorous, college-level Biology instruction aligned with the AP Biology curriculum and prepare students for success on the AP Biology examination. The teacher will provide strong content instruction while developing students scientific reasoning, analytical thinking, laboratory, and inquiry-based skills through advanced coursework and hands-on investigation.

Candidates must be available to begin employment immediately or within a short notice period.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver well-structured AP Biology lessons aligned with College Board AP Biology course requirements and learning objectives.
• Teach advanced biological concepts, including cellular processes, genetics, evolution, ecology, biological systems, and other areas included within the AP Biology curriculum.
• Deliver hands-on laboratory and inquiry-based instruction that develops students skills in scientific investigation, data analysis, experimental design, and evidence-based reasoning.
• Prepare students for the AP Biology examination through rigorous instruction, assessment, review, and targeted academic support.
• Incorporate laboratory investigations, scientific inquiry, data interpretation, research, and problem-solving into classroom instruction.
• Provide students with opportunities to develop critical-thinking, analytical, scientific reasoning, and communication skills.
• Create and maintain a classroom and laboratory environment that supports active learning and scientific inquiry.
• Differentiate instruction to meet varying student abilities and learning needs while maintaining the academic rigor expected of an AP-level course.
• Establish and maintain high expectations for student achievement, participation, behavior, and academic integrity.
• Assess, record, and monitor student progress in accordance with school, departmental, and AP course requirements.
• Provide students with timely, constructive feedback designed to support continued academic growth and AP examination readiness.
• Communicate student progress accurately and professionally to parents through reports, conferences, meetings, and other school-approved communication channels.
• Collaborate with the Head of Department, school leadership, learning support staff, and other teachers to support student achievement.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, biological materials, instructional resources, and other classroom materials appropriately.
• Ensure appropriate laboratory safety procedures and protocols are consistently followed.
• Support science-related extracurricular activities, academic competitions, student research, or other school initiatives as required.
• Attend faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences, professional development activities, and other required school events.
• Maintain professional standards of punctuality, preparedness, communication, and conduct.
• Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position as assigned by school leadership.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Life Sciences, Science Education with a Biology specialization, or a closely related field.
• Teaching certification or recognized teaching qualification appropriate to the grade level being taught.
• Previous secondary-level Biology teaching experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of advanced Biology content appropriate for AP-level instruction.
• Experience delivering laboratory-based and inquiry-driven science instruction.
• Strong understanding of scientific methodology, experimental design, data analysis, and laboratory safety.
• Ability to deliver rigorous instruction and prepare students for advanced assessments.
• Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to assess student performance and maintain accurate academic records.
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative school environment.
• Ability to begin employment immediately or within a short notice period.

Preferred

• Previous experience teaching AP Biology.
• Familiarity with current College Board AP Biology course requirements, learning objectives, laboratory expectations, and examination format.
• Experience preparing students for the AP Biology examination.
• College Board AP training, AP Summer Institute participation, or other relevant AP professional development.
• Experience teaching within an American, international, or college-preparatory curriculum.
• Experience teaching additional secondary-level Biology or Life Science courses.
• Experience supporting science competitions, research projects, science clubs, or other STEM-related extracurricular programs.
