Job Purpose
The Applications & Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, maintaining, and optimizing application and systems infrastructure to ensure high levels of reliability, performance, scalability, and security. The role supports virtualized environments, enterprise storage platforms, Linux-based systems, and disaster recovery solutions while aligning technology capabilities with business and security requirements.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain application infrastructure including web servers, application servers, middleware, and integration platforms supporting business-critical systems.
- Administer and manage virtualized infrastructure environments, including virtual machine provisioning, live migration, high-availability configurations, and resource optimization.
- Manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions, including scheduled backups, snapshot management, deduplication, and disaster recovery processes.
- Administer storage infrastructure including SAN, NAS, and software-defined storage solutions, managing storage pools, volumes, datasets, and related resources.
- Install, configure, maintain, and optimize Linux-based operating systems, ensuring performance tuning, system hardening, and operational stability.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity across application and infrastructure environments, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Implement and enforce security best practices, including patch management, access control, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of hands-on experience in systems administration, application infrastructure management, and Linux environments.
- Strong experience managing virtualization platforms, including clustering, high availability, and live migration capabilities.
- Proven experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
- Experience administering enterprise storage environments, including SAN, NAS, ZFS, Ceph, or equivalent technologies.
- Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems and infrastructure security best practices.
- Experience with disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and infrastructure resilience.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Experience within the financial services or payment services sector is an advantage.
- Previous experience working within the UAE region is an advantage.
