Job title: Commercial Assistant Manager

Department: Commercial

Job Purpose:

Support the Commercial manager to coordinate and works closely with various departments to resolve contractual and commercial issues and claims.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing commercial strategies according to company goals and objectives aiming to accelerate growth.
  • Conducting market research and analysis to create detailed business plans on commercial opportunities (expansion, business development etc.).
  • Understanding the requirements of existing customers to ensure their needs are being met.
  • Responsible for providing measurable input to the terminals business strategy within the limits of the role.
  • Responsible for setting & delivering on commercial objectives which are within the strategy & business plans of the terminal.
  • Be creative in making improvements (enhancements and modifications) to existing systems, practices and approaches and influence working methods to meet customer needs & improve productivity.
  • Oversee the customer service function for the terminal.
  • Upsell service offering in existing shipping line contracts.
  • Responsible for attracting and retaining general cargo customers as well as developing and selling services to landside users. Ensure development of a highly professional relationship to the various decision makers within these segments.
  • Clearly articulate the customer value proposition to secure growth and a profitable sales development.
  • Ensure thorough understanding of capabilities of competing ports and terminals. Ensure this is properly translated into the terminal's Commercial Strategy.
  • Identify, develop and oversee local end-user business opportunities.
  • Review analysis of marketing surveys on current and new product/service concepts in order to recommend future development.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with key accounts locally.
  • Assist when necessary in establishing or reviewing customs and other external procedures affecting port users.
  • Measure and communicate commercial results to the organization (periodically).
  • Act to acquire new customers and manage client relationships (new and existing).
  • Collaborate with and coordinate diverse teams (marketing, sales, customer service etc.).
  • Build and maintain profitable partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Monitor performance of commercial activities using key metrics and prepare reports for senior management.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years working in Port Ops field.
  • A bachelor's degree.

Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (MS Office, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
  • Know how to drive vehicle
  • Flexibility and a talent for negotiation
  • Fluent in speaking/writing English
