Our client is a leading insurance organisation to appoint an Assistant Vice President within its Business Banking & Direct Corporate division.
This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced commercial insurance professional looking to combine underwriting expertise, portfolio management, business development, and strategic partnership engagement.
The successful candidate will play a key role in driving profitable growth across SME and corporate segments while working closely with distribution partners, internal stakeholders, and direct clients.
Key Responsibilities
Business Growth & Relationship Management
- Drive new business acquisition and portfolio expansion across SME and corporate segments
- Develop and strengthen relationships with strategic distribution partners, intermediaries, and direct clients
- Identify new market opportunities and contribute to long-term business growth initiatives
- Manage and grow an existing portfolio with a focus on profitability, retention, and customer experience
Commercial Underwriting
- Underwrite commercial risks across a range of General Insurance products
- Assess risk exposures and provide competitive quotations within delegated authority limits
- Maintain portfolio profitability through effective pricing and risk selection
- Collaborate with reinsurance partners where required to support complex risks and larger exposures
- Support and guide junior team members on underwriting matters
Strategic Projects & Marketing Initiatives
- Support acquisition, retention, and cross-sell initiatives across the business
- Participate in strategic projects focused on customer growth and engagement
- Work closely with various stakeholders to ensure successful execution of business campaigns
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify areas for improvement and optimisation
Process Improvement & Digital Transformation
- Drive operational improvements and process enhancements
- Support digitalisation initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and customer experience
- Identify workflow improvements to increase productivity and service delivery standards
Requirements
- Degree-qualified, preferably with professional insurance qualifications
- At least 5-8 years of experience within Commercial Insurance, General Insurance Underwriting, Corporate Insurance, or Business Banking Insurance
- Strong understanding of commercial lines products and underwriting principles
- Experience managing corporate and/or SME insurance portfolios
- Demonstrated ability to develop client relationships and drive business growth
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Professional certifications such as BCP, PGI, CGI/ComGI, HI, ANZIIF or ACII will be advantageous
- A proactive and commercially minded approach with strong leadership potential
