Role Overview:

The Associate Director – Data Governance is accountable for establishing, managing, and continuously improving the enterprise data governance framework across Group Services. The role ensures that all master, reference, and metadata are accurate, complete, standardized, controlled, and compliant with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.

This position provides strategic oversight and operational leadership for data ownership, stewardship, policies, business rules, SOPs, and data quality controls. The role ensures that data supports analytics, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and decision-making across business units. The Associate Director acts as the key advisor to the Director – MDM and collaborates with IT, business stakeholders, and other data teams to enforce enterprise-wide standards and best practices.

About the Job:

Key Role and Responsibilities:

Governance Framework & Policy Management

• Develop, maintain, and enforce enterprise-wide data governance frameworks
• Establish data ownership, stewardship models, accountability, and decision rights
• Define, approve, and monitor enterprise data policies, SOPs, business rules, and data quality thresholds
• Co-chair / member of data governance councils and stewardship forums
• Resolve escalations related to data ownership, definition, or usage conflicts

Data Quality & Compliance

• Oversee enterprise data quality standards and integrity checks across master, reference, and metadata
• Define and monitor KPIs for data completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and consistency
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, reporting, audit, and regulatory requirements
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to remediate systemic data quality issues
• Collaborate with Data Quality Specialists to validate rules, workflows, and exception handling

Master & Metadata Oversight

• Provide governance oversight for master data, reference data, and metadata domains
• Approve enterprise data models, taxonomies, naming conventions, and classifications
• Ensure consistency between business processes, data standards, and system configurations
• Maintain and enforce metadata management practices, including lineage, business glossaries, and standard definitions

Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as the enterprise authority for data governance across business units, IT, and operations
• Support business and operational teams in understanding data responsibilities and impacts.
• Partner with Analytics, Operations, and MDM platform teams to ensure data supports business and regulatory needs

Leadership & Capability Development

• Lead and mentor the Data Governance Managers and Data Quality Specialists
• Build capabilities in data governance practices, data stewardship, and quality management
• Define training, onboarding, and certification programs for data governance and data quality managers and specialists

Qualifications, Experiences and Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field
• Master's degree or MBA preferred
• 8–12 years of experience in data governance, master data management, data quality, or enterprise information management
• 3–5 years in a senior or leadership role managing data governance or data quality teams
• Proven experience designing and enforcing enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, and stewardship models
• Strong experience overseeing data quality standards, integrity checks, and regulatory or audit compliance
• Hands-on experience governing master data, reference data, and metadata across complex or multi-domain environments
• Demonstrated experience partnering with senior business, IT, and operations stakeholders

Technical Skills/Competencies:

• Enterprise data governance leadership
• Advanced knowledge of data quality management, integrity controls, and compliance requirements
• Solid understanding of master data, reference data, metadata, and enterprise data standards
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and facilitation skills
