Job Description
The Auto Painter is responsible for preparing and painting vehicle surfaces to restore vehicles to their original appearance and manufacturer standards. The role requires accurate color matching, proper surface preparation, paint application, and finishing while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and productivity.
Requirements
Inspect vehicle body surfaces and identify areas requiring painting or refinishing.
Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, masking, filling, and applying primer as required.
Mix and prepare paints, primers, clear coats, and other refinishing materials according to manufacturer specifications.
Perform accurate paint color matching using paint codes and color-matching systems.
Apply basecoat, paint, and clear coat using spray guns and appropriate painting techniques.
Ensure proper paint thickness, coverage, color consistency, and finish quality.
Perform blending and spot repairs to achieve a seamless finish between repaired and existing panels.
Polish and finish painted surfaces to achieve the required gloss and appearance.
Inspect completed work and correct any defects such as runs, orange peel, dust, uneven coverage, or color mismatch.
Follow repair orders and ensure work is completed according to the required specifications and timelines.
Maintain and properly use spray guns, mixing equipment, sanding tools, and other workshop equipment.
Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure proper handling and storage of paint and chemicals.
Follow all HSE, environmental, and workshop safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE.
Minimize material wastage and use paint and consumables efficiently.
Coordinate with Body Repair Technicians, Estimators, Parts, and Workshop Supervisors to ensure smooth repair operations.
Complete assigned jobs within the required productivity and quality standards.
Report any technical issues, additional repair requirements, or material shortages to the supervisor.
Qualifications & Experience
High school diploma, vocational certificate, or technical qualification in Automotive Body & Paint / Auto Refinishing.
Minimum 2-5 years of experience as an Auto Painter in an automotive dealership, body shop, or collision repair center.
Good knowledge of automotive paint systems, refinishing materials, and painting techniques.
Experience With Water-based And Solvent-based Paint Systems Is Preferred.
Experience with computerized color-matching systems is an advantage.
Knowledge of vehicle body repair and refinishing processes.
Ability to read and follow repair orders and technical instructions.
