Backend Developer - Python/Django/GenAI

Role Description

Kaitongo is looking for a Backend Engineer – Python/Django/Agentic AI for a full-time, on-site role in Bengaluru.

You will work on the core Kaitongo platform and help build production-grade AI agents using Python, Django, FastAPI, the OpenAI Agents SDK and related technologies.

Your work will include developing agent orchestration, tools and reusable skills; integrating internal and external data sources; designing reliable execution workflows; and building the backend services required to operate, monitor and improve AI agents at scale.

You will work in an agile product environment where experimentation is encouraged, but reliability, maintainability and measurable output quality are essential.

In addition to strong technical capabilities, you should be comfortable working directly with the leadership and product teams to understand complex business problems, evaluate solution options and translate product requirements into scalable technical systems.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain backend services using Python, Django, Django REST Framework and FastAPI.

Design scalable APIs, data models, background workflows and integrations.

Build AI agents using the OpenAI Agents SDK and related frameworks.

Develop reusable tools and skills for research, retrieval, analysis, validation and content generation.

Implement agent workflows involving planning, execution, tool use, structured outputs and validation.

Integrate agents with internal data, third-party APIs, databases and enterprise systems.

Improve agent reliability through guardrails, evaluations, retries, tracing and observability.

Build and enhance RAG, semantic search and knowledge-retrieval pipelines.

Optimize agent performance, accuracy, latency and cost.

Write secure, reusable, testable and maintainable production code.

Work closely with product, frontend and leadership teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Own features from architecture and development through testing, deployment and production support.

Qualifications

• Back-End Web Development and Software Development skills (Python/Django)
• Proficiency in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
• Experience in working with Front-End developers
• Strong programming skills
• Experience in working with LLMs/GenAI technologies (OpenAI, Anthopic, LLama APIs, and Langchain).
• Experience in building RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) applications and/or working with vector databases.
• Experience developing AI agents or multi-step LLM workflows.
• Familiarity with the OpenAI Agents SDK or comparable agent orchestration frameworks is a plus.
• Bachelor's/Masters degree in Computer Science or related field
