The Backup & Systems Administrator is responsible for end-to-end ownership of enterprise backup, recovery, and data protection platforms. The role ensures business continuity, ransomware resilience, and disaster recovery readiness across onpremises and cloud environments.
Key Ownership & Accountability
- Own end-to-end backup, recovery, and data protection operations.
- Ensure ransomware resilience, immutable backups, and DR readiness.
- Act as the single point of accountability for backup-related incidents and recovery operations.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for backup failures and recovery issues.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day administration, monitoring, and maintenance of enterprise backup platforms.
- Design, implement, and support backup and recovery solutions, including pre-site assessments and deployments.
- Manage ExaGrid backup appliances and ensure optimal performance and data integrity.
- Administer Veeam and Arcserve backup solutions, including troubleshooting and optimization.
- Support Windows and Linux servers, virtual machines, and storage platforms.
- Plan and execute server and data migrations (onpremises and cloud).
- Manage and support Azure cloud infrastructure related to backup and recovery.
- Administer Microsoft 365 services including M365 Admin Center, Exchange Online, EOP, Entra ID, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Manage Active Directory user, group, and policy configurations.
- Support and maintain SAN/NAS storage systems.
- Manage FTP servers and data transfer services.
- Work within ITSM systems for incident, change, and problem management.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with Veeam and Arcserve backup and recovery.
- Experience with Windows Server, Linux Server, and virtualization platforms.
- Experience with enterprise storage (SAN/NAS).
- Strong hands-on experience with ExaGrid backup solutions.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud computing.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 administration and security components.
- Experience with Active Directory and identity services.
- Experience with ITSM tools and processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in IT or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in enterprise IT environments.
- Proven experience in backup, recovery, and data protection operations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and own critical infrastructure services.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
