Beekeeper

A Beekeeper is responsible for managing, maintaining, and monitoring bee colonies to support healthy hive development, honey production, pollination activities, and overall apiary operations. The role involves inspecting hives, caring for bees, managing queens and colonies, harvesting honey and other hive products, maintaining beekeeping equipment, and following appropriate safety, animal welfare, environmental, and food-handling practices.

• Manage and maintain bee colonies and apiary sites according to established beekeeping practices.
• Conduct regular inspections of hives to assess colony health, population, brood development, food stores, queen condition, and hive activity.
• Monitor colonies for signs of disease, parasites, pests, swarming, environmental stress, or other potential problems.
• Identify and report abnormal colony behavior, bee mortality, disease symptoms, or hive conditions requiring attention.
• Maintain healthy queen bees and assist with queen replacement, introduction, breeding, or colony management when required.
• Manage hive population, brood frames, honey stores, and colony strength throughout the production season.
• Provide supplemental feeding, water, or other approved colony support when necessary.
• Control and manage pests, parasites, and bee diseases using approved methods and in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Install, maintain, repair, and replace hive boxes, frames, foundations, covers, entrances, feeders, and other beekeeping equipment.
• Prepare and position hives at suitable apiary locations while considering forage availability, weather, accessibility, and environmental conditions.
• Monitor weather conditions, flowering cycles, nectar availability, and other environmental factors affecting bee activity and honey production.
• Assist with pollination operations by preparing, transporting, positioning, and monitoring bee colonies at agricultural sites when required.
• Harvest honey, beeswax, propolis, pollen, royal jelly, and other hive products using appropriate procedures and equipment.
• Operate honey extraction, filtering, processing, bottling, and packaging equipment when required.
• Ensure harvested honey and other bee products are handled, stored, labeled, and packaged according to food safety and company standards.
• Maintain accurate records of hive inspections, colony health, queen status, treatments, feeding, honey production, and other apiary activities.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe apiary areas, storage facilities, processing areas, vehicles, and equipment.
• Clean, inspect, maintain, and properly store protective clothing, smokers, hive tools, extractors, frames, containers, and other beekeeping equipment.
• Wear appropriate protective equipment and follow safe working procedures when handling bees, equipment, treatments, and hive products.
• Safely use smokers and other approved beekeeping tools to manage bee colonies while minimizing stress to the bees.
• Take appropriate precautions to reduce the risk of bee stings and protect coworkers, visitors, customers, livestock, and members of the public.
• Follow applicable environmental, agricultural, animal welfare, food safety, pesticide-use, occupational health and safety, and company regulations.
• Coordinate with farm managers, agricultural workers, veterinarians, pest-control specialists, suppliers, customers, and other relevant personnel.
• Assist with colony splitting, swarm management, hive relocation, nucleus colony preparation, and other colony-development activities.
• Support the introduction and use of new beekeeping equipment, technologies, monitoring systems, and management techniques.
• Monitor inventory of hive equipment, protective clothing, feeding supplies, treatments, packaging materials, and other apiary supplies.
• Report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, significant colony losses, disease outbreaks, accidents, near misses, and other operational concerns promptly.
• Maintain awareness of local environmental conditions and support responsible beekeeping practices that protect pollinators and surrounding ecosystems.
• Perform other beekeeping, apiary management, honey production, pollination, and equipment-maintenance duties as assigned by management.
