Role summary
The Steel Structural BIM Engineer is responsible for developing accurate 3D Steel structural detailed and fabrication models in BIM software (e.g., Tekla and Revit Structures is an advantage)
and generating coordinated Design drawings, connection Design drawings BOQ. The role ensures that steel models comply with design intent, codes
and project recommendations and are fully coordinated with other internal departments Arch. PD and MEP models.
Key responsibilities
- Create and maintain design and detailed 3D BIM models for different types of steel structures like (steel buildings PEB or hot rolled sections, pipe Racks, Bridges ,warehouses, steel sheds, etc.)
- Develop and update steel element and layout arrangement in the model based on design calculation and sketch from Design team.
- Generate and check steel shop drawings, sections, connections details, and BOQ directly from the BIM model, ensuring accuracy, clear annotations, and alignment with project standards.
Coordination and quality:
- Coordinate steel structural models with architectural and MEP models using BIM coordination tools (e.g., Navisworks), perform clash checks and support clash resolution with the wider design team.
- Collaboration and support work closely with design engineer to interpret design intent and incorporate design changes quickly and accurately into the model.
- Support construction/ fabricator teams by providing clear steel design and shop drawings, answering RFIs related to steel structural, and exporting model data (drawings, BOQ) needed for production and construction.
Qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor's degree Civil / Structural Engineering with experience in Steel structural BIM.
- 3-6 years of related work experience
- Strong proficiency in Tekla Structure, Revit Structures is an advantage and familiarity with Navisworks.
- Good understanding of steel structural design and detailing practices, relevant codes/standards, and strong attention to detail, communication, and coordination skills in a multidisciplinary BIM environment.
