Job Description

Job Title: Business Development Manager (Steel Fabrication)

Job Purpose:

The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and structural steel fabrication contracts across industrial, infrastructure, and commercial sectors to maximize factory capacity utilization, market share, and revenue growth.

Responsibilities:

Market Expansion & Client Acquisition:

• Identify, target, and establish relationships with EPC contractors, General Contractors (Tier 1 & Tier 2), developers, and engineering consultants.

• Continuously map out upcoming Mega Projects, Industrial Parks, Power Plants, and Infrastructure developments to secure steel fabrication tenders.

• Lead pre-qualification (PQ) and vendor registration processes with leading developers, governmental entities, and engineering consultants.

Tendering & Proposal Management:

• Screen Request for Quotations (RFQs/ITBs) and analyze project specifications, structural drawings, and tonnage requirements.

• Collaborate closely with Estimation, Engineering, and Production teams to develop competitive, accurate, and profitable techno-commercial proposals.

• Lead commercial clarification meetings, technical presentations, and final contractual negotiations to secure project award.

Strategic Partnerships & Key Account Management:

• Build and maintain long-term relationships with key decision-makers (C-level, Procurement Directors, Commercial Managers).

• Secure framework agreements and preferred fabricator status with repeat contracting clients.

• Monitor customer satisfaction throughout project lifecycle and manage executive-level escalations.

Market Intelligence & Strategic Planning:

• Track raw steel market dynamics, global/local raw material (plates, sections) price trends, and competitor activities.

• Formulate annual business development plans, sales forecasts, and capacity booking strategies aligned with workshop throughput.

• Identify potential joint ventures, sub-contracting alliances, and export market opportunities.

Cross-Functional Alignment & Contract Signing:

• Work with Legal and Finance teams to finalize contract terms, payment milestones, Letters of Credit (LCs), and guarantees, minimizing commercial risk.

• Lead formal project handover to the Project Management and Production teams upon contract award.

Communication and working relationship:

Internal

• Estimation & Tendering: Daily alignment on RFQs , cost models, and submission deadlines.

• Engineering & Design: Review technical feasibility, connection designs, and value engineering.

• Production & Plant Management: Track workshop loading, fabrication capacity, and delivery schedules.

• Finance & Legal: Align on contract terms, credit terms, guarantees, and cash flow.

External

• Clients & EPC Contractors: Maintain active engagement with General Contractors, Developers, and Project Owners.

• Engineering Consultants: Drive factory approvals, specifications inclusion, and vendor listing.

• Suppliers: Coordinate on raw steel availability and pricing indications for mega bids.

• Industry Bodies: Represent the company in steel and industrial construction exhibitions.

Job Requirements:

- Years of experience: 8+ years of sales/business development experience in construction/industrial sector.

-Preferred10+ years of proven success specifically within Steel Fabrication, PEB, or Heavy Structural Steel.

-Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

-Preferred Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Engineering Management.

- Professional Certificates:

-Commercial Negotiation / B2B Strategic Sales Management certifications.

-Preferred Certified Business Development Professional (CBDP) / PMP.

Knowledge & Soft Skills

-Strong executive presence, high-level negotiation, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and contract acumen (FIDIC awareness).

-Preferred Extensive active network with Tier-1 contractors, EPCs, and consulting offices.

Technical skills:

-Solid understanding of steel manufacturing processes (cutting, welding, blasting, painting, erection), structural drawings, and CRM software.

--Preferred Advanced knowledge of steel estimation tools, Tekla structures basics, and ERP systems (SAP/Oracle).
