Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

The Cargo Inspection Clerk is responsible for accurately recording, updating, and validating all operational events related to the examination of import containers through the designated Examination Application (Exam App). The role ensures that all inspection activitiesfrom container placement in the examination area through cargo stripping, inspection, repacking, and final seal fixingare properly documented, supported with photographic evidence, and aligned with booking and system records.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Confirm receipt and placement of containers in the designated cargo examination area.
  • Verify container identification details (container number, size, type) against the booking list.
  • Inspect and record the external condition of the container prior to opening.
  • Capture and upload clear photographs of container condition and seals before cargo stripping.
  • Identify and record any visible damage, tampering, or irregularities prior to examination.
  • Validate the type, nature, and description of containerized cargo by cross-checking physical cargo against the booking list.
  • Monitor and record the start of cargo stripping activities in the Exam App.
  • Capture photographic evidence during stripping to document cargo condition and packaging status.
  • Identify discrepancies between booking data, cargo appearance, and photographic records.
  • Immediately escalate major discrepancies, damages, or undeclared cargo to the Supervisor.
  • Record all inspection events accurately and in real time within the Exam App.
  • Upload all required photographs to the system, ensuring proper labeling and traceability.
  • Prepare detailed damage reports when cargo or container damage is identified.
  • Ensure inspection findings are fully documented, including quantity, condition, and compliance observations.
  • Maintain accurate time stamps for all examination stages.
  • Confirm that cargo is properly repacked following inspection requirements.
  • Monitor and record completion of repacking activities.
  • Verify seal numbers and seal integrity prior to fixing.
  • Record final seal fixing details in the Exam App and upload seal photographs.
  • Ensure the container is cleared and ready for release following completion of examination.
  • Update the system to reflect labor, stripping, or special handling charges as applicable.
  • Ensure consignee charges are applied correctly based on cargo type and examination scope.
  • Make system corrections when required to reflect actual operational activities.
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency between operational actions and system records.
  • Adhere strictly to safety, security, and cargo handling procedures during all examination stages.
  • Coordinate closely with cargo handlers, inspectors, supervisors, and operations staff.
  • Ensure compliance with port authority, customs, and terminal regulations.
  • Always maintain confidentiality and integrity of cargo and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE policy

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Diploma or secondary education preferred.
  • Previous experience in cargo inspection, port operations, container terminal, or logistics is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in cargo examination applications and operational systems.
  • Ability to capture and upload clear, accurate photographic evidence.
  • Basic understanding of container types, seals, and cargo classifications.
