Centrifugal Chiller Engineer

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Centrifugal Chiller Engineer to manage the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance of centrifugal chiller systems within FM sites. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring reliable chiller plant operation, minimizing breakdowns, and maintaining system efficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor centrifugal chillers and chilled water systems.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of centrifugal chillers.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control-related chiller faults.
• Monitor chiller operating parameters, including temperature, pressure, flow, and vibration.
• Inspect and maintain chilled water pumps, cooling towers, valves, and associated equipment.
• Monitor chiller plant performance and identify potential issues before breakdowns occur.
• Carry out routine inspections and preventive maintenance as per the planned maintenance schedule.
• Attend emergency breakdowns and restore equipment operation within the required timeframe.
• Coordinate with specialist chiller contractors for major maintenance and repairs.
• Review contractor/service reports and follow up on outstanding corrective actions.
• Monitor BMS readings and alarms related to chillers and HVAC systems.
• Support chiller plant optimization and energy-efficiency initiatives.
• Maintain accurate equipment logs, maintenance records, and technical reports.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with HSE procedures and site requirements.
• Follow Permit to Work, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and other safety procedures.
• Coordinate with FM supervisors, technicians, clients, and other engineering teams.
• Ensure spare parts, tools, and materials required for maintenance are available.
• Provide technical support and guidance to HVAC technicians when required.

Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or a related field.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in centrifugal chiller operation and maintenance.
• Strong experience in Facilities Management / MEP operations.
• Hands-on experience with centrifugal chillers and chilled water plants.
• Good knowledge of cooling towers, chilled water pumps, AHUs, FCUs, valves, and HVAC controls.
• Experience with BMS and chiller control systems is preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
• Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
• Good understanding of HSE requirements and safe working practices.
• Good communication and reporting skills.
• Good command of English.
• UAE FM experience is preferred.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with large commercial buildings, malls, hospitals, hotels, airports, or district cooling environments.
• Experience with major chiller brands is an advantage.
• Manufacturer-specific centrifugal chiller training/certification is an advantage.
