Chief Accountant
Position Overview
A Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing an organization's accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective financial controls. This role typically manages the accounting team and works closely with senior management to support strategic financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP)
- Manage general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and tax reporting
- Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations
- Prepare financial analysis and reports for senior management
2. Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Develop and maintain internal accounting controls
- Coordinate internal and external audits
- Monitor changes in accounting legislation and standards
3. Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead annual budgeting process
- Monitor budget performance and analyze variances
- Provide financial forecasts and recommendations
4. Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff
- Assign tasks and review performance
- Conduct training and development programs
5. Tax & Audit Coordination
- Ensure timely and accurate tax filings
- Liaise with external auditors and tax consultants
- Prepare audit schedules and documentation
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CMA) preferred
- 510+ years of accounting experience, including supervisory roles
- Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- In-depth understanding of financial regulations and reporting standard
