The Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) for Energy Transition & Net-Zero Programs is a strategic executive role designed to lead the organization in its commitment to sustainability and aggressive climate action initiatives. This position is pivotal in defining and executing an integrated sustainability strategy that aligns with the organization's business objectives while advancing its mission to achieve energy transition and net-zero emissions. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of environmental policies, energy systems, and sustainability frameworks, coupled with outstanding leadership and stakeholder engagement skills. The CSO will drive innovation in sustainable practices, manage interdisciplinary teams, and foster collaborative relationships both internally and externally. This role requires a visionary leader capable of translating complex sustainability challenges into actionable initiatives, leveraging data analytics to inform decision-making, and influencing organizational culture toward sustainability and resilience. The CSO will report directly to the CEO and work closely with the executive leadership team to ensure that sustainability principles are ingrained across all business functions.

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in sustainability, environmental policy, or related fields, ideally within the energy sector.
  • Proven experience in managing complex programs focused on energy transition, net-zero emissions, and corporate sustainability initiatives.
  • Demonstrated capability to develop and implement organization-wide sustainability strategies that align with long-term corporate goals.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices related to environmental sustainability and energy management.
  • Expertise in stakeholder engagement and managing relationships with governmental agencies, community organizations, and industry partners, including experience in public speaking and representation.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data related to energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainability performance metrics to inform strategic decisions.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools to oversee large-scale sustainable initiatives and ensure timely delivery against milestones.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience in preparing reports and presentations for diverse audiences including board members, executives, and community stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and articulate the organization's vision for sustainability, particularly in the context of energy transition and net-zero programs, to align with overall strategic goals.
  • Lead the design and implementation of comprehensive sustainability initiatives that drive measurable reductions in carbon emissions and enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability practices into procurement, operations, product development, and marketing strategies.
  • Drive innovation in sustainable technologies and assess investment opportunities in renewable energy projects that complement the organization's portfolio.
  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels to solicit input, share progress, and cultivate a community of practice around sustainability and environmental responsibility.
  • Prepare and present detailed sustainability performance reports to the board of directors and executive leadership, demonstrating impact and ROI of sustainability initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze industry trends, legislative developments, and emerging technologies to inform strategic planning and policy advocacy.
  • Build and lead a high-performing sustainability team, fostering a culture of accountability, performance excellence, and continuous improvement.

  • Fluency in sustainability-related software and tools, as well as knowledge of carbon accounting methodologies.
  • Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills, with ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • A deep understanding of corporate governance and risk management as they relate to sustainability and environmental impacts.
