Job Title

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (Consultant/Specialist)

Job Summary

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing psychiatric disorders in infants, children, and adolescents. The role includes developing individualized treatment plans, providing psychotherapy and medication management, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting families to promote the mental health and well-being of young patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Diagnose and treat mental health conditions such as:
  • ADHD
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Eating disorders
  • Behavioral and emotional disorders
  • Tic disorders and Tourette syndrome
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications.
  • Provide psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, and family counseling.
  • Educate parents and caregivers about diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.
  • Collaborate with psychologists, pediatricians, occupational therapists, speech therapists, social workers, nurses, and school personnel.
  • Assess and manage psychiatric emergencies, including suicidal ideation, self-harm, aggression, and psychosis.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and clinical documentation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in continuing medical education (CME), research, and teaching activities when applicable.

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Completion of a residency in Psychiatry.
  • Fellowship or board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Valid medical license or eligibility for licensure (e.g., DOH/HAAD, DHA, or MOH in the UAE).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialty clinical experience (depending on Specialist or Consultant level).
