Role Overview
Saudi Gold Refinery (SGR) is seeking a Civil Draftsman in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to produce precise technical drawings for our refinery infrastructure and expansion projects. This role supports the technical team by converting engineering concepts into compliant construction documents for civil and structural works. The position requires a detail-oriented professional who understands industrial safety standards and the specific needs of precious metals processing facilities.
The Civil Draftsman will report directly to the VP of Technical & Operation and will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of our plant's physical documentation. You will ensure that all civil designs meet regulatory requirements and operational needs while supporting ongoing maintenance and capital projects.
Key Responsibilities
The Civil Draftsman will be responsible for the following key areas of work.
Drafting and Design Support
The role produces detailed 2D and 3D civil drawings for foundations, structures, and site works using AutoCAD and Revit.
Compliance Assurance
This position ensures all drawings adhere to the Saudi Building Code, SASO standards, and internal SGR engineering guidelines.
As-Built Updates
The Draftsman updates master drawing sets to reflect field changes and maintains an accurate archive of as-built documentation.
Technical Coordination
The role collaborates with mechanical and electrical engineers to resolve spatial conflicts and integrate utility requirements into civil designs.
Quantity Take-Offs
This position provides accurate material quantities and dimensional data to support procurement and cost estimation activities.
Site Verification
The Draftsman conducts site visits to verify existing conditions and ensure constructed elements match approved design specifications.
Document Control
The role manages the version control and distribution of all civil drawings in accordance with ISO 9001 quality standards.
Contractor Liaison
This position provides technical clarifications to construction contractors to minimize errors and rework during implementation.
Qualifications
● Holds a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, or a related field.
● Possesses at least five years of drafting experience in an industrial, mining, or heavy construction setting.
● Demonstrates advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and working knowledge of Revit or Civil 3D.
● Understands Saudi Building Code requirements and standard practices for reinforced concrete detailing.
● Has experience producing drawings for industrial facilities, including chemical containment and heavy foundations.
● Shows ability to interpret engineering sketches and technical specifications accurately.
● Communicates clearly in English with engineers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
● Maintains a valid driving license and ability to perform regular site inspections.
Preferred / Nice-to-have
● Experience in precious metals refining, chemical processing, or high-security facility projects.
● Proficiency in BIM workflows and clash detection tools.
● Knowledge of SASO standards for industrial safety and environmental protection.
● Familiarity with document control systems such as Aconex or SharePoint.
● Membership in the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE).
Success Metrics
● Delivers 100 percent of assigned drawings within agreed timelines and quality standards.
● Maintains zero major design-related rework incidents during construction phases.
● Completes the update of all legacy civil drawings for the existing plant within the first year.
● Achieves full compliance with document control protocols for all issued technical documents.
● Reduces drafting turnaround time by implementing standardized detail libraries.
● Receives positive feedback from project engineers and contractors on drawing clarity.
● Supports successful regulatory inspections by providing accurate and up-to-date as-built records.
