Job Purpose
The Specialist, Claims is responsible for managing the efficient, accurate, and timely resolution of general insurance claims across all lines of business, excluding motor. The role serves as a key advocate for clients throughout the claims journey, providing expert guidance, maintaining clear communication, and engaging with insurers to achieve fair outcomes in accordance with policy terms and conditions.
Based in Abu Dhabi, the Specialist will apply strong technical knowledge, sound judgement, and effective negotiation skills to manage complex and contentious claims, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and continuously improve claims processes and service delivery.
What you'll do
- Maintain current knowledge of insurance products, market developments, policy coverage, and claims practices across all general insurance lines, excluding motor.
- Manage the full claims lifecycle, including claim notification, assessment, investigation, negotiation, settlement, and closure.
- Ensure claims are handled accurately, efficiently, and within agreed timelines, company procedures, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Guide clients through the claims process, providing clear advice and regular updates at every stage.
- Review complex and high value claims, providing technical recommendations to support accurate assessments and appropriate settlements.
- Advocate for clients in complex or contentious claims by engaging with insurers and other relevant parties to establish coverage and compensability in accordance with policy terms and conditions.
- Manage large scale claims across property, engineering, casualty, and other general insurance classes.
- Communicate effectively with policyholders, insurers, brokers, loss adjusters, legal advisers, and other stakeholders throughout the claims process.
- Address claims related enquiries promptly and provide accurate, professional, and timely responses.
- Maintain complete and accurate claims records, including claim details, investigation findings, supporting documentation, settlement agreements, and relevant correspondence.
- Monitor claims performance and prepare reports and analysis on claims trends, key metrics, service standards, and emerging risks for management review.
- Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory developments, emerging technologies, and best practices in claims management.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, introduce automation, increase operational efficiency, and enhance the overall client experience.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives relating to claims operations, stakeholder communication, and service delivery.
- Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues, sharing claims expertise and promoting consistent service standards.
What we're looking for
- A bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant claims experience, preferably within an insurance company or insurance brokerage.
- Demonstrated experience managing large scale and complex claims across property, engineering, casualty, and other general insurance lines.
- Strong knowledge of insurance products, policy wordings, coverage interpretation, and claims management practices.
- Solid technical expertise in claims handling, assessment, negotiation, settlement, and resolution.
- Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills, with the ability to manage complex and contentious claims effectively.
- Strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, insurers, brokers, and other stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple claims and priorities.
- A client focused approach with a strong commitment to delivering fair outcomes and high quality service.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
