Role Overview
Currie & Brown is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager (MEP) to lead and manage all commissioning activities for hyperscale and mission-critical data centre projects. Acting as the client's representative, you will oversee the commissioning process from design review through testing, integrated systems testing (IST), client acceptance, and final handover, ensuring all MEP systems achieve operational readiness, reliability, and compliance with project requirements.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with clients, consultants, contractors, specialist vendors, and operations teams to deliver a safe, structured, and efficient commissioning programme.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Leadership
- Develop and implement the overall commissioning strategy, execution plan, and commissioning schedule.
- Manage commissioning activities throughout all project phases, from design through final client handover.
- Coordinate Level 1–5 commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with project milestones.
- Lead commissioning readiness reviews and system turnover planning.
Technical Management
- Oversee commissioning of:
- HVAC and Chilled Water Systems
- Electrical Distribution Systems
- UPS Systems
- Generators
- MV/LV Switchgear
- BMS & EPMS
- Fire Detection & Fire Suppression Systems
- ELV Systems
- Fuel Systems
- Water Treatment Systems
- Critical Cooling Infrastructure
- Review commissioning procedures, testing scripts, method statements, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and commissioning documentation.
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with project specifications, client standards, local regulations, and international best practices.
Testing & Validation
- Manage Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
- Lead Functional Performance Testing (FPT).
- Coordinate Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
- Validate redundancy testing including N, N+1, 2N and concurrent maintainability requirements where applicable.
- Witness system performance testing and reliability demonstrations prior to client acceptance.
Project Coordination
- Work closely with Project Managers, Design Managers, Construction Managers, Quality, and HSE teams.
- Coordinate specialist vendors, commissioning engineers, contractors, and client operations teams.
- Chair commissioning meetings and technical workshops.
- Resolve commissioning issues and drive timely closure of punch lists.
Documentation & Handover
- Manage commissioning documentation, testing records, issue logs, and turnover packages.
- Ensure O&M manuals, as-built drawings, warranties, and asset documentation are complete.
- Prepare final commissioning reports and client handover documentation.
- Support operational readiness and transition to facility operations.
Quality & Safety
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with Currie & Brown quality management procedures.
- Promote safe commissioning practices, including Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), and energisation procedures.
- Support QA/QC inspections and verification activities throughout commissioning.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary commissioning interface between the client and project delivery teams.
- Provide regular commissioning progress reports, risk updates, and mitigation plans.
- Build strong relationships with clients and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in MEP commissioning within construction.
- At least 5 years delivering mission-critical or hyperscale data centre projects.
- Experience working in consultancy, client-side, or EPC environments.
- Proven experience managing commissioning for large-scale MEP systems from installation through operational handover.
