Compliance Officer

Compliance Officer & MLRO | Leading Global Hedge Fund | Abu Dhabi

A well-regarded international hedge fund is seeking a Compliance Officer for their Abu Dhabi office.

This standalone role offers real ownership. You'll be the firm's senior compliance presence on the ground in the UAE, overseeing both regulatory compliance and anti-money laundering for the local business. You will also be part of a supportive global compliance team, and may contribute to work in other regions. It would suit someone with the experience and credibility to work independently and advise senior stakeholders, who still enjoys being hands-on day to day.

What you'll be doing

• Taking on the Compliance Officer and MLRO roles for the regional entity, subject to regulatory approval
• Owning and developing the local compliance framework, keeping policies and procedures aligned with FSRA requirements
• Acting as the firm's day-to-day contact with the regulator, managing correspondence, filings, notifications and any reviews or inspections
• Overseeing AML/CFT and sanctions controls, including client due diligence, enhanced checks and ongoing monitoring
• Handling internal suspicious activity escalations and making external reports where needed
• Giving clear, practical guidance to senior management and investment professionals on regulatory risk
• Tracking regulatory change and translating it into updated controls and processes
• Maintaining regulatory records and supporting internal and external audits
• Working with colleagues in other offices, and supporting compliance and AML work beyond the UAE as required

What we're looking for

• Solid knowledge of the ADGM regulatory framework, and of UAE AML/CFT and sanctions requirements
• Experience as a Compliance Officer and/or MLRO, ideally at a hedge fund or asset manager with a regional presence. Could consider someone willing to relocate who has strong regulatory knowledge of the region
• A track record of dealing directly with regulators, including submissions and inspections
• A good understanding of investment management, fund structures and the related compliance risks
• The confidence to work autonomously, alongside a collaborative approach within a global team
• Excellent communication skills, with the judgement to balance regulatory rigour with commercial pragmatism
• Based in Abu Dhabi, or willing to relocate, and able to meet regulatory residency and suitability requirements
