About the client
A global top-tier centralised digital asset exchange, with derivatives among the market leaders. Fully remote, bilingual working environment. Singapore or Hong Kong base preferred. The role is about building the platform that lets a global exchange operate across every jurisdiction it wants to enter.
Reporting to the CTO, you'll own the architecture and delivery of the entire compliance technology stack, such as KYC, KYB, AML, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, customer risk rating and case management — and the engineering team behind it.
Why this role stands out
- Architecture ownership. You define how the compliance platform is built, from the rule engine to the vendor integration layer to data retention. The scope is the whole stack, not one module of it.
- Regulation as a design problem. MiCA, MAS, VARA, FCA, SEC/CFTC, etc. — each carries different technical implications. You'll translate policy into architecture and keep the platform ahead of where the rules are heading, rather than retrofitting after the fact.
- Reports to the CTO. Compliance technology sits at the centre of the platform's ability to expand, not at the edge of it. That is reflected in where this role sits.
What you'll own
- End-to-end technical architecture for the compliance platform: KYC, AML, KYB, risk control, sanctions screening and transaction monitoring
- Design and continuous optimisation of identity verification, customer risk rating, rule engine, case management and audit logging systems
- A highly available, secure and scalable real-time risk and compliance architecture running 24/7
- Integration and ongoing governance of third-party compliance services — KYC vendors, on-chain analytics, sanctions lists, Travel Rule infrastructure
- Data governance, access management, privacy protection and compliance data retention, meeting global regulatory and audit requirements
- Building and leading the engineering team: architecture standards, development process, mentoring, and cross-region collaboration
- Close partnership with Compliance, Risk, Legal, Security and Product to productise and automate compliance capability
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years leading engineering teams, with real capability in technical planning, architecture, team building and cross-team collaboration
- Blockchain industry engineering experience, with familiarity with core exchange business and compliance frameworks
- Working knowledge of KYC, AML, KYB, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring and customer risk rating
- Experience designing large-scale distributed systems for high concurrency and high availability: microservices, message queues, rule engines, permission management, data platforms
- Software language in Java
- English fluent enough to work directly with overseas product, engineering and compliance teams day to day
- Strong delivery drive, cross-functional influence and technical leadership
