1. Position Summary
The Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon is responsible for providing advanced surgical care to infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart diseases. The role requires a
Tier-1, Western-trained surgeon with proven experience in complex pediatric cardiac procedures within a tertiary care environment.
2. Minimum Qualifications & Licensing Requirements
Tier-1 Accepted Qualifications
One of the following (or equivalent):
- UK CCT / CESR (Cardiothoracic Surgery – Pediatric focus)
- American Board Certification (Thoracic Surgery + Pediatric Cardiac fellowship)
- Canadian RCPSC Fellowship
- Irish CSCST
- Australian FRACS (Cardiothoracic Surgery – Pediatric)
- German Facharzt (Cardiac Surgery with pediatric specialization)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years post-consultant experience in pediatric cardiac surgery.
- Demonstrated competence in high-complexity congenital cardiac procedures.
Licensing
- Eligible for DOH or DHA Consultant License.
- DataFlow verification and DOH/DHA exam or exemption as per Tier-1 rules.
3. Key Responsibilities- Perform the full spectrum of pediatric congenital cardiac surgeries, including:
- Neonatal and infant cardiac repairs
- VSD/ASD repairs
- Tetralogy of Fallot repair
- Arterial switch procedures
- Valve repairs and replacements
- Complex congenital reconstructions
- Provide pre-operative assessment, operative care, and post-operative management.
- Collaborate with pediatric cardiology, PICU, anesthesia, and perfusion teams.
- Participate in surgical planning meetings and multidisciplinary case reviews.
- Ensure high standards of documentation and compliance with UAE regulatory requirements.
