Job Summary
Functions as assigned in the dental clinic. Professionally, functions independently, bearing responsibility for the oral health care of his patients and functions to some degree in all areas of general dentistry. He provides work direction to dental assistants and other ancillary staff members daily.
The Resident Pedodontist is responsible for providing care for his/her patients maintaining a high-level of professional performance in accordance with:
- Professional dental ethics and JCIA/CBAHI standards.
- Hospital by-laws.
- Laws of Ministry of Health in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and any other applicable regulations according to the departmental quality plan.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures through his actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the NMC Hospitals and Clinics.
- Providing pediatric dentistry care within the parameters of their professional competence as reflected in the scope of their clinical privileges for both in-patient and out-patient.
- Practice within the framework of clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines and criteria.
- Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on his/her patients within the range of the specialty.
- Carry the pre-operative assessment of patients planned to be treated under General anesthesia and organize the necessary investigations and operation in consultation with the senior staff.
- History taking, physical examinations, interpretation of common diagnostic tests and document patient condition on admission in the specified admission sheet.
- Assessment and referral of appropriate patients under his/her medical care to other appropriate medical facilities as well as accepting referrals of patients with medical problems in his/her field of specialty.
- Carry out comprehensive dental treatment under General Anesthesia for the known difficult and uncooperative cases.
- Respond to emergency to offer advice and actively participate with problems if required, related to his/her field of specialty.
- Observe and upholds the patient rights of security, confidentially and privacy.
- Maintains appropriate records of all patients with accurate, timely legible completion of patient's medical records.
- Strict observation of joint consultation with colleagues for cases requiring expertise of different dental sub-specialist.
- Participate in the department plan for patient care and admission.
- Monitoring adequacy of equipment and sterilization for the delivery of related health service to prevent cross- contamination.
- Practice pediatric dentistry by the sum of diagnostic, remedial and restorative services rendered to patients. Typical duties and responsibilities are:
- Diagnostic: conditions of the hard and soft tissues of teeth, jaws and supporting structures.
- Radiographic, laboratory, clinical evaluation.
- Relationship, if any, to systemic conditions.
- Treatment planning.
- Preventive treatments such as caries risk control, fluoride application
- Interceptive treatments such as space maintainers, orthopedic appliances
- Restorative treatments such as glass ionomer , composite, SSC
- Minor oral surgery such as tooth extraction.
- Trauma-treatment.
- Discuss with anesthesia in advance to admission regarding high-risk patients and seek expert advice from another consultants within their specialty.
- Active participation in Continued Medical Education (C.M.E) through educational hospital activities Also through national and international meetings, conferences and symposiums.
- Continuous update of his knowledge in the medical field as well as continuously upgrading level of skill in his / her filed of profession.
- Abides by Department Policies and Procedures, as well as hospital by-laws, Rules and Regulations.
- To carry out other assignments as directed by Hospital Administration and/or the department chairman within the realm of his knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Responsible to educate patients /families as per their needs and to implement their whole role regarding patient / family education process as mention in patient & family education policy and procedure (NSP-GEN-014) including documentation in patient medical record.
- They are knowledgeable about their essential role in patient and family education.
- Involves the patient/families in plan of care and respects patients/families regarding their goals and choices of patient care.
- Provides health promotion and health teaching thru methods appropriate to a patients developmental level, learning needs, readiness and ability to learn, language preference, culture and situations.
- Allots time necessary to assess, plan implement and evaluate patient education provided to patients/families with appropriate documentation.

All Physicians, Dentists, Nursing staff, other health care professionals, patients and their families. Staff of the Dental department, consultants and registrars of other specialties, Nursing staff, Dental Laboratory technicians, staff of Patients Services, Finance Services, patients and their families.
Qualifications:
Education/Licensure
- Required
Graduate of an Accredited Medical and Dental School or Equivalent College's degree with two (2) years of experience as General Dentist.
- Desirable
Higher qualifications in a specialty, if any
Experience:
- Required
Minimum two (2) years in his/her specialty after obtaining College's Degree.
Current valid license to practice medicine in the area of his specialty.
- Desirable
Three (3) years experience in his/her specialty after obtaining Basic Degree.
Registration in Saudi Medical Council and/or Current license to practice medicine in
Saudi Arabia.
COMPETENCIES & SKILLS:
- Fluent in verbal and written English.
- Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Is knowledgeable of the Medical by-laws.
- Knowledge of computer application.
