Job Description

A Cost Control Engineer for an Aluminum Factory monitors, controls, and optimizes manufacturing and project costs to ensure production lines (e.g., fabrication of curtain walls, glazing systems, aluminum profiles, doors, and windows) remain profitable and complete within approved budgets.

Job Summary

The Cost Control Engineer oversees the financial health of aluminum and façade fabrication projects. This role bridges engineering, procurement, and finance by tracking raw material usage, labor productivity, fabrication overheads, and subcontractor billing to maximize profitability and minimize waste. [

Key Responsibilities

Budgeting & Cost Structuring:

  • Prepare detailed project budgets based on Bill of Quantities (BOQ), architectural drawings, and raw material requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) aligned with the project's Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Establish standardized costing for specific items like aluminum profiles, glazing systems, and cladding.

Cost Monitoring & Variance Analysis:

  • Track actual expenditures (material consumption, labor hours, factory downtime) against the baseline budget.
  • Conduct cost per ton and cost per square meter analyses to measure plant performance.
  • Perform monthly variance analysis to identify overruns and recommend immediate corrective strategies.

Material & Inventory Control:

  • Validate Bills of Materials (BOM) to prevent over-allocation of metal or glass elements.
  • Audit factory scrap levels and material yield efficiency to reduce manufacturing waste.
  • Coordinate with stores and procurement to track Local Purchase Orders (LPOs) against baseline material costs.

Change Management & Claims:

  • Review and analyze variation orders, design modifications, and client scope changes for financial impact.
  • Evaluate subcontractor claims, fabrication invoices, and site installation expenses for policy compliance.

Reporting & Forecasting:

  • Generate detailed weekly and monthly cost control reports, cash flow forecasts, and earned value analysis metrics.
  • Flag potential financial risks to the factory management before budgeted funds are exceeded.

Skills and Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Quantity Surveying.

Experience: Generally requires 3 to 5 years of experience for mid-level roles, or 8+ years for strategic factory operations within the aluminum, façade, glass, or steel fabrication sectors.
