ROLE PURPOSE:
The counselling psychologist will be responsible for providing psychological evaluations and delivering therapeutic interventions to students on campus. The role involves assessing and treating a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, trauma, mood disorders, personality disorders, and adjustment/adaptive disorders. The psychologist will apply evidence-based, student-centered approaches in accordance with international guidelines, ensuring that support is tailored to the unique needs of each student.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide therapy and counselling to students in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment, using evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help them develop coping skills, enhance self-awareness, and improve emotional well-being.
- Assess student concerns through screening and referrals as needed; evaluate strengths, needs, and risks; and prepare necessary reports and documentation for management while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Maintain detailed and organized student case files, including progress notes, session plans, therapeutic goals, and intervention strategies, ensuring clear tracking of student growth and therapy outcomes.
- Conduct the initial counselling sessions in person on campus, coordinating with the student services team who act as the first point of contact for referrals; keep management updated on appointments and student progress.
- Adhere strictly to professional ethics, including confidentiality, respect for student autonomy and rights, and always maintaining clear professional boundaries.
- Follow all institutional policies and procedures, acting in the best interest of the educational institute throughout the engagement.
- Protect the privacy of institutional information; do not disclose any sensitive information during or after the term of engagement except as authorized.
- Avoid any personal or intimate relationships with students that could create conflicts of interest, favoritism, or undermine the trust essential to the counselling relationship
Essential Skills and Experience
- Doctorate or master's degree in clinical psychology from a recognized university.
- Minimum 5 years of therapy experience in clinical settings post-degree.
- Valid professional license to practice psychology issued by UAE health authorities (DHA, CDA, or DOH).
- Degree attestation and equivalency from UAE Ministry of Education.
- Proven experience in psychological evaluations and therapeutic interventions, preferably with young adults.
- Strict adherence to UAE mental health laws, ethical standards, and confidentiality.
- Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
- Clean professional record with no disciplinary history.
- Ability to provide on-campus counselling services to students.
