Role Purpose: The Data & AI Governance Manager is responsible for establishing and operationalizing Data and AI governance frameworks to ensure data is trusted, secure, well-managed, and compliant with regulatory requirements. The role supports the implementation of governance controls across data ownership, quality, access, and usage, as well as AI governance and responsible AI practices. It ensures the translation of governance policies into practical standards, processes, and operating models, in alignment with organizational strategy, data governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements (e.g., PDPL, SDAIA).
Key Accountabilities & Activities :
Strategy
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the Data & Analytics department's strategy, ensuring that it is translated into annual business and operational plans for the section.
- Formulate and monitor the effective implementation of the section strategy and relevant tactics, in line with the department and division overall Badael strategy.
Budget and Financial Monitoring
- Provide inputs and support the preparation, consolidation and monitoring of the annual budget of the department in coordination with the Department Head and the finance team.
Common Accountabilities
- Supervise operational excellence improvement initiatives and motivate employees to constantly identify areas for improvement on systems, processes and practices taking into account international leading practices, in order to continuously enhance the organizational effectiveness and business performance.
- Drive the development and oversee the implementation of policies, systems, processes, procedures.
People Management
- Provide strategic direction to the direct reporting roles, guide, set priorities and objectives that will be cascaded to the lower levels, while managing their performance, and providing ongoing support and feedback, to ensure the achievement of the short- and long-term business goals.
- Coordinate the activities of the direct reporting roles to ensure that all operational plans are carried out efficiently, in line with the annual organizational targets, policies and procedures.
- Oversee the successful implementation of the talent management related activities (e.g. PMS, trainings, etc.), providing inputs to the Human Capital and relevant approvals as required (e.g. annual leaves, etc.)
Data Governance Framework & Implementation
- Define and implement the Data & AI Governance framework, including policies, standards, and operating procedures.
- Establish governance structures, including councils, forums, decision rights, and escalation mechanisms.
- Ensure governance frameworks are aligned with organizational strategy, data platforms, and business priorities.
- Translate governance policies into practical controls, workflows, and day-to-day ways of working.
Data Ownership, Stewardship & Quality Management
- Define and formalize data ownership and stewardship models across priority data domains.
- Establish and maintain data quality frameworks, including standards, issue management, and escalation processes.
- Monitor data quality performance and ensure timely resolution of data-related issues.
- Ensure consistency of data definitions, metadata, and lineage across key data assets.
AI Governance & Compliance
- Define and implement AI governance processes, including use case intake, review, approval, and monitoring.
- Ensure responsible AI practices are embedded across AI initiatives and aligned with governance standards.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including PDPL and SDAIA guidelines.
- Monitor adherence to governance controls and support audit and compliance activities.
Data Access, Security & Regulatory Alignment
- Define and enforce data access controls and usage policies in alignment with governance frameworks.
- Ensure data privacy, protection, and security requirements are implemented and maintained.
- Conduct governance gap assessments and support remediation planning and execution.
- Ensure governance controls support data sovereignty and regulatory compliance requirements.
Stakeholder Management & Governance Adoption
- Coordinate with business, data, and technology stakeholders to ensure adoption of governance frameworks.
- Guide stakeholders in implementing governance practices within their respective domains.
- Promote accountability for data ownership, quality, and compliance across the organization.
- Support the establishment of governance KPIs and monitor adoption and performance
Knowledge, Experience, and Education:
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related field, including 1+ year in a managerial role.
- Strong understanding of data governance, enterprise data ecosystems, and cross-functional stakeholder collaboration.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- Master's degree and relevant certifications in Data Governance or Data Management are preferred.
