Job Description

The Data Consultant is responsible for gathering, cleaning, and interpreting datasets to solve business problems, transforming raw data into actionable insights through data visualizations and reports to support data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role primarily focuses on Power BI but requires the flexibility to work with other reporting platforms such as Metabase, Apache Superset, or similar tools.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Report Development & Visualization:

Design, build, and optimize interactive reports and dashboards in Power BI, ensuring data accuracy and visualization best practices.

2. Cross-Platform Reporting Flexibility:

Utilize adaptability to work with other reporting platforms (e.g., Metabase, Apache Superset) as needed, creating consistent, high-quality reports across tools.

3. Business Data Analysis & Insights:

Conduct in-depth business data analysis to derive actionable insights and recommendations, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions.

4. Requirement Gathering & Stakeholder Collaboration:

Work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs, gather requirements, and translate them into effective data visualizations that align with business objectives.

5. Documentation & Reporting Standards:

Maintain documentation for reports and dashboards, including data sources, calculations, and assumptions, to ensure transparency and reproducibility.

6. Performance Monitoring & Optimization:

Monitor the performance of reports and dashboards, optimizing for responsiveness, efficiency, and scalability across platforms.

7. SQL Development:

Design and optimize SQL queries to extract and transform data from various sources, supporting data visualization and reporting needs.

8. Training & Knowledge Sharing:

Provide training and support to end-users on Power BI and other reporting tools, enhancing data literacy and effective use of reporting platforms within the organization.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Economics, or a related field. A Master's degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or reporting, with a primary focus on Power BI and the flexibility to work with other reporting platforms.
  • Power BI and Looker and Cross-Platform Reporting Skills: Advanced skills in Power BI, including DAX and Power Query, with the flexibility to work across other reporting platforms (e.g., Metabase, Apache Superset) to create consistent, high-quality reports and dashboards.
  • SQL Expertise: Expert-level SQL skills, with the ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex queries to support data extraction, transformation, and reporting needs.
  • Working with Semantic Layers: Experience in utilizing and integrating semantic layers (dbt, cube.dev, etc.) into reporting workflows to ensure standardized definitions, consistent data interpretation, and improved accessibility for end-users.
  • Business Data Analysis: Strong analytical skills focused on interpreting business data, generating insights, and making actionable recommendations.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Excellent communication skills to gather requirements, understand business needs, and convey insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Documentation & Best Practices: Ability to document reporting processes, data sources, and key calculations, maintaining transparency and standards in reporting.
  • Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Knowledge of techniques to monitor and optimize report performance, ensuring efficient data visualization and user experience.
