Job Purpose
To process, quality‑control and package hydrographic survey datasets (MBES, SBES, Lidar/SDB where applicable) into validated, standards‑compliant deliverables (e.g. S‑102, S‑101 layers, BAG/GeoTIFF surfaces, charts, reports) that meet project specifications and international standards (IHO S‑44, S‑100). The role ensures data integrity, traceability, and readiness for client submission and charting authorities.

Responsibilities
Data Ingestion & Acquisition Support
Review acquisition logs, vessel configuration files, offsets/lever arms, patch test reports, SVP/Cast data, and tide/ellipsoid models for completeness and consistency.
Validate metadata, time sync, positioning sources (GNSS/INS), motion sensor configurations and sensor latency settings.
Flag acquisition issues early and coordinate with field teams for corrective action and re acquisition if required.
Core Processing (MBES/SBES/Ancillary)
- Process raw sonar files in CARIS HIPS & SIPS (or equivalent): load raw, apply TPU/TVU/THU models, motion, refraction, tidal/ellipsoidal corrections.
- Build and maintain gridded surfaces (BAG/CSAR/GeoTIFF/ASCII XYZ) according to project grid resolution and IHO S 44 order requirements.
- Perform automated and manual cleaning of soundings and point clouds; remove artefacts (spikes, nadir noise, water column interference, outer beam anomalies).
- Integrate ancillary datasets (backscatter, side scan, LiDAR, SDB, SBP where relevant) and ensure alignment to the vertical/horizontal datums.
Quality Control & Assurance
- Execute QC routines: coverage assessment, beam angle/density checks, TVU/THU evaluation, statistical outlier detection, crossline analysis, surface difference/overlap analysis and conformance to S 44.
- Diagnose and document systematic errors (e.g. roll bias, timing errors, refraction mismodelling) and recommend corrective measures.
- Track and close non conformities; maintain a corrective action log.
Vertical & Tidal Management
- Process tide gauge datasets, apply tidal zoning, or implement ellipsoid to chart datum transformations (VDatum/Separation models).
- Validate vertical reference consistency across survey blocks; document vertical control methodology and uncertainty budgets.
Charting & Deliverables
- Produce bathymetric charts, contours, 3D visualizations, backscatter mosaics and seabed classification layers as per scope.
- Prepare S 100 family products (e.g., S 102 Bathymetric Surface, S 101 ENC features where applicable; S 104/111 if in scope) with complete metadata.
- Compile submission packages: processing reports, QA/QC summaries, coverage plots, product specifications and GIS layers/shapefiles.
Documentation & Traceability
- Maintain processing logs, methodology statements, version control, and standardized folder structures.
- Ensure reproducibility and auditability of workflows; archive raw, intermediate and final data per company policy and contractual requirements.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Liaise with Party Chiefs, Survey Engineers, and Data Managers to resolve acquisition and configuration issues.
- Participate in technical reviews with clients/authorities (e.g., ports authority, maritime entities, UKHO) and align on acceptance criteria.
- Contribute to SOPs, templates and knowledge base, best practices.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure adherence to IHO S 44, S 100 framework, relevant hydrographic guidance and project-specific specs.
- Work within ISO 9001/14001/45001 management systems (quality, environment, OH&S) and company HSE policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree with Category B Cartographer Certified
- Conversant with computer operation and competent knowledge of application software CARIS HIPS & SIPS, AutoCAD
- Strong grasp of positioning (GNSS/INS), motion compensation, refraction models, sound velocity application, and uncertainty modelling (TPU/TVU/THU)
Required Skills
- Written and spoken English is necessary.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in multi beam data process.
- At least 3 years of data processing experience.
