Database Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented professional to lead database management across the

HBZ Group. This role is critical to ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of enterprise-wide data systems, including core banking and other business-critical database platforms.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Adhere to HBZ's code of conduct, policies, and directives.

2. Manage database operations, including maintenance, patching, backup and recovery, and

control implementation.

3. Achieve the highest possible RDBMS availability.

4. Ensure performance monitoring and capacity planning.

5. Assess and recommend appropriate controls for RDBMS environments.

6. Extend and coordinate RDBMS-related services across other countries.

7. Deliver assigned projects within agreed timelines.

8. Maintain low- and high-level RDBMS diagrams and schema details, including the number of

databases.

9. Maintain multiple secure copies of RDBMS-related configuration backups, including

replication.

10. Review and update the primary disaster recovery procedures for RDBMS.

11. Set RDBMS performance monitoring thresholds.

12. Plan and recommend capacity management requirements.

13. Assess design flaws within the database infrastructure.

14. Oversee new and existing RDBMS requirements.

15. Perform root cause analysis of RDBMS-related incidents.

16. Plan changes to resolve incidents and problems and support project requirements.

17. Optimise RDBMS for improved performance.

18. Receive, prioritise, and respond to incoming work orders, calls, and tickets related to RDBMS.

19. Implement required controls to mitigate identified and/or reported risks.

20. Coordinate with vendors for the procurement and maintenance of all IT RDBMS

infrastructure.

21. Lead database administrators to ensure the optimal functioning of the database team.

22. Demonstrate strong knowledge of Solaris OS, Sybase IQ, PostgreSQL, and enterprise storage

systems.

Experience and Education

1. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

2. Certification in Sybase RDBMS.

3. Additional database management-related training and certifications.

4. 10+ years of experience managing large databases.

5. Hands-on experience in configuring, securing, tuning, and managing multiple databases.
