Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Database Team Lead – Oracle & SQL Server to provide technical leadership and administration of enterprise-critical database environments.
The successful candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server, including Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, SQL Server Always On, Clustering,
Replication, Performance Tuning, Backup & Recovery, Security, High Availability, and Disaster Recovery.
The role will serve as a senior escalation point for critical database incidents, lead RCA activities, oversee upgrades and migrations, support capacity planning, and provide technical guidance to database administrators.
Key Responsibilities
Database Leadership
- Lead and oversee enterprise Oracle and SQL Server environments.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to database administrators.
- Establish database administration standards and best practices.
- Review configurations, changes, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
- Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex database issues.
Oracle Database
- Administer Oracle 11g, 12c, 19c, and 21c.
- Manage Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, and Replication.
- Lead Oracle installation, upgrades, patching, migrations, and troubleshooting.
- Support Oracle performance, availability, HA, and DR requirements.
Microsoft SQL Server
- Administer enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Manage Always On Availability Groups, Clustering, and Replication.
- Lead SQL Server upgrades, patching, migrations, and troubleshooting.
- Support SQL Server performance, HA, and DR requirements.
Performance, Backup & Recovery
- Lead database performance monitoring and optimization.
- Perform advanced query and database performance tuning.
- Support capacity planning and infrastructure optimization.
- Manage Oracle RMAN and SQL Server backup/recovery.
- Validate backup integrity and recovery capabilities.
- Support disaster recovery testing and recovery exercises.
Security, Cloud & Automation
- Implement database security, access controls, encryption, and auditing.
- Support databases hosted in Azure, AWS, and/or OCI.
- Develop automation using SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, and scripting.
- Improve operational efficiency through database automation.
Incident, RCA & Change Management
- Lead resolution of P1/P2 database incidents.
- Conduct technical Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Coordinate technical teams and vendors during major incidents.
- Lead database upgrades, migrations, patching, and technology refresh activities.
- Ensure changes follow approved change-management procedures.
Documentation & Standards
- Maintain database architecture and configuration documentation.
- Develop operational runbooks and troubleshooting guides.
- Document backup, recovery, HA/DR, security, and operational procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement of database administration processes.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years of enterprise database administration experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Database 11g/12c/19c/21c.
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Extensive experience with:
- Oracle RAC
- Oracle ASM
- Oracle Data Guard
- Oracle Replication
- SQL Server Always On
- SQL Server Clustering
- SQL Server Replication
- Advanced database performance tuning and query optimization.
- Strong experience in backup, recovery, HA, and DR.
- Strong knowledge of database security, encryption, auditing, and access controls.
- Experience with Azure, AWS, and/or OCI.
- Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, and database scripting.
- Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager, SSMS, and monitoring platforms.
- Experience supporting critical production environments.
- Strong leadership, troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Banking or Financial Services experience is advantageous.
