Position Overview

The Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of products, goods, documents, equipment, and customer orders from the company or designated collection points to customers, branches, warehouses, or other delivery locations. The role ensures deliveries are completed according to assigned schedules while maintaining accurate documentation, proper handling of goods, vehicle safety, and professional customer service.

The position works closely with warehouse, logistics, dispatch, sales, operations, and customer service teams to coordinate deliveries, confirm orders, manage delivery schedules, and resolve delivery-related issues. The Delivery Driver is expected to operate company vehicles responsibly, comply with road and safety regulations, and maintain a high standard of professionalism when representing the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect goods, products, parcels, documents, equipment, or customer orders from warehouses, stores, suppliers, or designated collection points.
  • Verify delivery items against invoices, delivery orders, packing lists, manifests, or assigned delivery schedules before departure.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload goods safely to prevent damage, loss, contamination, or incorrect deliveries.
  • Deliver products to customers, branches, offices, warehouses, construction sites, or other designated locations according to assigned routes and schedules.
  • Plan efficient delivery routes while considering traffic conditions, delivery priorities, distance, vehicle capacity, and time requirements.
  • Use GPS, navigation applications, delivery management systems, or route-planning tools to support efficient deliveries.
  • Ensure deliveries are completed within agreed timeframes and promptly communicate delays, route issues, or unforeseen circumstances to the relevant team.
  • Obtain customer signatures, delivery confirmations, photographs, electronic acknowledgements, or other proof of delivery as required.
  • Handle cash-on-delivery payments, receipts, invoices, or other payment-related documents where applicable.
  • Maintain accurate delivery records, mileage logs, fuel records, delivery documents, and vehicle-related documentation.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and provide appropriate assistance during delivery and collection activities.
  • Verify customer details, delivery addresses, order quantities, and special delivery instructions before completing each delivery.
  • Handle customer questions and delivery concerns professionally and escalate complaints or unresolved issues to the appropriate department.
  • Report missing, damaged, incorrect, rejected, or returned goods immediately and follow company procedures for resolution.
  • Collect returned goods, empty containers, documents, equipment, or other items from customers when required.
  • Coordinate closely with warehouse and dispatch teams regarding order readiness, loading priorities, delivery schedules, and urgent requests.
  • Inspect the assigned vehicle before and after use and report mechanical issues, damage, warning indicators, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain the vehicle in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition.
  • Perform basic vehicle checks including tyres, brakes, lights, fluid levels, fuel, safety equipment, and other routine inspection items.
  • Follow all road traffic laws, company driving policies, vehicle safety procedures, and applicable transportation regulations.
  • Drive defensively and operate the vehicle responsibly while prioritizing the safety of customers, pedestrians, other road users, and company property.
  • Ensure goods are transported according to appropriate handling, temperature, security, or storage requirements where applicable.
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of customer information, delivery details, company documents, and transported goods.
  • Support loading, unloading, stock movement, warehouse activities, or basic logistics tasks when required.
  • Assist with urgent, same-day, scheduled, or special deliveries according to business requirements.
  • Report accidents, traffic incidents, vehicle breakdowns, theft, loss, or other emergencies immediately to management.
  • Maintain required driving licences, permits, vehicle documents, and certifications.
  • Follow company procedures regarding fuel usage, tolls, parking, vehicle maintenance, expenses, and operating costs.
  • Support continuous improvement of delivery routes, delivery processes, customer service, and transportation efficiency.
  • Represent the company professionally through appropriate appearance, communication, punctuality, reliability, and responsible driving behaviour.
Requirements
  • Secondary school education, Certificate, or Diploma is preferred.
  • Valid driving licence appropriate for the assigned vehicle category.
  • Previous experience as a Delivery Driver, Courier Driver, Van Driver, Logistics Driver, Transport Driver, or similar role is preferred.
  • Clean or acceptable driving record with a strong understanding of safe and defensive driving practices.
  • Good knowledge of local roads, routes, traffic conditions, and navigation systems.
  • Experience using GPS, Google Maps, delivery applications, or logistics management systems.
  • Strong ability to follow delivery schedules, instructions, routes, and documentation accurately.
  • Good physical condition with the ability to load, unload, carry, and handle goods where required.
  • Strong customer-service and communication skills with a professional and courteous attitude.
  • Reliable, punctual, responsible, and able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Good attention to detail when checking orders, addresses, quantities, delivery documents, and proof of delivery.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliveries and changing priorities in a fast-paced logistics environment.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting is an advantage.
  • Experience handling fragile, high-value, refrigerated, food, medical, or specialized goods is an advantage depending on the industry.
  • Basic computer or smartphone skills for delivery applications, digital documentation, communication, and reporting.
  • Strong awareness of vehicle security, cargo protection, and loss-prevention procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with traffic delays, difficult customers, delivery issues, or unexpected situations.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, overtime, or extended hours according to delivery requirements.
  • Ability to travel between multiple delivery locations and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
