Overall Purpose of the Job:
The Engineering Manager will lead and manage the central engineering office responsible for delivering complete technical and design packages for renewable energy projects (solar PV, substations and hybrid systems).
The role ensures all engineering deliverables, technical specifications, simulations, and studies are issued with high technical quality and aligned with project, regulatory, and commercial requirements.
The Engineering Manager will also supervise technical quality assurance and support commissioning of projects to ensure compliance with design intent and performance guarantees.
Primary Tasks:
A. Engineering Design & Technical Office Management
- Establish and manage the internal engineering office responsible for all technical deliverables.
- Plan engineering workload, resources, and priorities across multiple projects.
- Develop and implement engineering procedures, templates, and standards.
- Ensure coordination between engineering, PMO, O&M, and supply chain teams.
- Maintain document control and revision management for all engineering packages.
- Develop Training program for Junior engineers
B. Design Packages & Initial Technical Studies
Oversee preparation and issuance of:
- Complete design packages (concept, basic and detailed design).
- Solar PV system layouts and electrical designs.
- HV/MV substation and grid connection designs.
- Preliminary feasibility and technical assessments.
- Site assessments (land, topography, geotechnical coordination).
- Grid connection and compliance considerations.
Ensure packages are:
- Technically compliant with grid code and international standards.
- Optimized for cost, constructability, and performance.
- Issued on time to support project development and execution.
C. PV Simulation & Yield Assessment
Supervise and validate:
- PV simulations (PVsyst or equivalent).
- Energy yield assessments (P50/P90/P95).
- Performance ratio calculations.
- Loss diagrams and assumptions.
- Tracker optimization and DC/AC sizing.
- Sensitivity and degradation analysis.
Ensure bankable simulation reports suitable for:
- Lenders technical advisors.
- Investors and financial models.
- EPC tendering.
D. Technical Annexes, RFPs & Specifications
Lead preparation of:
- Technical annexes for EPC and supply contracts.
- Employer's technical requirements.
- Technical specifications and datasheets for:
- PV modules
- Inverters
- Trackers
- Transformers
- Cables and BOS
- HV/MV equipment
- SCADA and monitoring systems
- Employer's design standards and guidelines.
Ensure alignment between:
- Technical requirements
- Commercial strategy
- Contractual risk allocation
E. Vendor & Contractor Technical Review
Manage technical evaluation of:
- EPC contractors
- OEMs and vendors
- Equipment suppliers
Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing technical proposals and deviations.
- Technical bid tabulation and comparison.
- Clarification with bidders.
- Reviewing shop drawings and technical submittals.
- Supporting procurement and contract negotiations.
F. Technical Quality Assurance & Control
Supervise technical QA/QC team to ensure:
- Design compliance with specifications.
- Compliance with grid code and standards.
- Proper review and approval workflows.
- Lessons learned captured and applied.
Develop:
- Engineering checklists.
- Design review procedures.
- Standardization of equipment and solutions.
G. Commissioning & Technical Support to Projects
Oversee engineering support during construction and commissioning:
- Review commissioning procedures and test protocols.
- Ensure compliance with design and specifications.
- Support performance testing.
- Validate as-built documentation.
- Provide technical resolution for site issues.
- Support provisional acceptance and final acceptance.
Coordinate with:

- Contractors
- OEMs
- Grid operator (when needed)
Authority & Decision Role
The Engineering Manager has authority to:
- Approve engineering designs and technical packages.
- Approve technical specifications and datasheets.
- Approve simulation assumptions and yield reports.
- Approve vendor technical compliance.
- Recommend technology selection and design optimization.
- Escalate major technical risks to CTO.

Educational background, Skills and Experience required:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Power Engineering.
- Master's degree is a plus.
- 10+ years in renewable energy engineering (solar/substations).
- Experience in utility-scale PV and grid connection.
- Experience managing engineering teams.
- Experience with EPC or developer environment.
- Strong background in design review and technical specifications.
- PVsyst or equivalent simulation tools.
- Power system studies understanding.
- HV/MV design knowledge.
