We're looking for an experienced Design System Specialist to join a leading digital experience and innovation team, helping establish and scale a design system that will be used across multiple digital products and transformation programmes.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who sits at the intersection of UX/UI design and front-end development and understands what it takes to turn a design system into a genuinely scalable product — not simply a Figma component library.

You'll take ownership of the design system across both design and development environments, ensuring consistency, accessibility and a seamless design-to-code workflow.

What You'll Be Doing

• Create, maintain and govern a comprehensive design system, covering foundations, patterns, components, documentation and usage guidelines.
• Build and manage scalable Figma libraries and reusable components.
• Define and maintain design tokens covering colour, typography, spacing, themes and other foundational properties.
• Establish and manage an automated design-token pipeline between design and development environments.
• Partner closely with front-end developers to build and maintain a coded component library, using tools such as Storybook.
• Ensure clear alignment and traceability between Figma components and production components.
• Define contribution models, versioning, releases and governance processes for the design system.
• Embed accessibility, responsive behaviour and quality assurance into components from the outset.
• Identify opportunities to automate and improve the design-to-development workflow.
• Drive adoption of the design system across different teams and projects.
• Continuously evolve the system to improve scalability, consistency and delivery efficiency.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with hands-on experience building, scaling or governing enterprise-level design systems. You should be comfortable operating across both the design and technical sides of a design system, with experience in areas such as:

Figma • Design Systems • Component Libraries • Design Tokens • Storybook • Design-to-Code • Accessibility • Responsive Design • Component Governance • Versioning • Documentation • Design System Architecture

You'll understand how designers and developers work together and be able to create the processes, tooling and standards that ensure what is designed is accurately reflected in production. Experience establishing automated design-token pipelines and working directly with development teams on coded component libraries would be particularly valuable.
