Tech Lead – Platform Engineering (AWS)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Tech Lead – Platform Engineering to help design, build, and evolve a modern cloud platform that enables development teams to build, deploy, and operate services efficiently, securely, and at scale.
In this role, you will lead the development of enterprise platform capabilities across AWS, establishing platform standards, reusable infrastructure patterns, self-service capabilities, and developer experience improvements. You will collaborate closely with development, DevOps, security, and architecture teams to deliver scalable platform foundations, governance processes, observability solutions, and automation frameworks that empower multiple engineering teams.
As a technical leader, you will drive engineering best practices, mentor platform engineers, and champion a Platform-as-a-Product mindset that enhances developer productivity and operational excellence.

The enterprise platform supports more than 700 applications across Digital Commerce, Marketing, IoT, and Enterprise Services.
Intellia partners with the customer to engineer a comprehensive software ecosystem for innovative IoT products and digital platforms. As part of the Core Architecture Team, you will contribute to the architecture and evolution of an enterprise engineering platform that accelerates software delivery by providing reusable services, cloud infrastructure, engineering standards, automation, and governance for development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain enterprise-grade platform capabilities on AWS, including reusable infrastructure modules, deployment templates, and golden paths.
- Define and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards, governance, and best practices using Terraform.
- Architect and evolve CI/CD pipelines for containerized and serverless workloads using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, and related technologies.
- Drive platform engineering initiatives that improve developer experience, self-service capabilities, and engineering productivity.
- Develop and maintain reusable platform templates, onboarding workflows, and developer enablement assets.
- Design and operate enterprise observability solutions covering logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerting.
- Collaborate with security and compliance teams to integrate security scanning, governance, and policy enforcement into engineering workflows.
- Establish cloud infrastructure standards, deployment automation practices, and operational excellence guidelines.
- Support AWS multi-account environments, landing zones, and governance initiatives.
- Mentor engineers, provide technical leadership, and promote engineering best practices across platform teams.
- Evaluate and improve internal developer platforms, service catalogs, golden paths, and platform adoption.
- Drive continuous improvements in reliability, scalability, security, cost optimization, and developer productivity.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in AWS, including:
- Amazon EKS
- Amazon ECR
- IAM
- VPC
- AWS Lambda
- CloudWatch
- AWS Systems Manager
- Advanced Terraform knowledge, including:
- Module design
- Workspaces
- State management
- Enterprise-scale infrastructure patterns
- CI/CD architecture using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar tools.
- Kubernetes and container orchestration, including Helm and Amazon EKS.
- Infrastructure as Code standards and governance.
- Platform Engineering principles and DevOps best practices.
- Golden path and template management using Backstage or similar Internal Developer Platforms.
- Observability platforms including:
- CloudWatch
- Prometheus
- Grafana
- OpenTelemetry
- AWS X-Ray
- Security scanning and compliance automation tools such as Checkov and Polaris.
- Developer self-service tooling and platform enablement.
Professional Experience
- 7+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering.
- Proven technical leadership experience leading platform engineering initiatives.
- Experience designing and implementing enterprise golden paths and reusable engineering templates.
- Deep expertise in AWS multi-account architectures and landing zones.
- Hands-on experience building and governing Terraform modules at enterprise scale.
- Experience designing CI/CD platforms supporting both containerized and serverless applications.
- Strong background designing enterprise observability platforms covering logs, metrics, traces, and dashboards.
- Experience defining engineering standards and collaborating across multiple development teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Internal Developer Platforms such as Backstage or Port.io.
- AWS Well-Architected Framework reviews and implementation.
- Platform as a Product mindset with experience measuring developer experience and platform adoption.
- GitOps tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
- Service Mesh technologies including Istio or AWS App Mesh.
- FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization strategies.
