Job Title: Digital Art Editor — Visual Arts Media & Online Publishing (1 Position)

About the Job

We are seeking a creative, research-oriented Digital Art Editor to develop and coordinate editorial content for De Art, an online visual arts media platform dedicated to exploring art, artists, artworks and contemporary visual culture.

The successful candidate will contribute to the editorial direction of the platform by researching artists and artistic movements, identifying compelling visual stories, developing original content and ensuring that published materials are informative, visually engaging and editorially consistent. The role combines art knowledge, editorial judgment, digital publishing and visual storytelling to make art accessible to diverse audiences.

This is a hands-on role working closely with content creators, writers, researchers, designers and social media specialists to develop engaging editorial materials for the website and digital channels, while helping establish De Art as a distinctive and credible voice in visual arts media.

Responsibilities

Develop and coordinate editorial content covering visual arts, contemporary art, art history, artists, exhibitions, artworks and related cultural topics.

Research artists, artistic movements, exhibitions, collections, visual trends and significant developments in the art world.

Identify compelling subjects, stories and emerging artists for publication across De Art's digital platforms.

Prepare, write, edit and proofread articles, artist profiles, exhibition reviews, interviews, short features and educational content.

Develop editorial concepts for recurring content series, themed publications and special art-related features.

Evaluate artworks, portfolios and visual materials for potential editorial use, considering artistic relevance, originality, context and audience interest.

Collaborate with writers, researchers, photographers, artists and other contributors to develop accurate and engaging content.

Verify names, dates, artwork titles, historical details, quotations, references and other factual information before publication.

Ensure appropriate attribution and respect for copyright, image licensing and permissions when using artworks and visual materials.

Coordinate with graphic designers and visual content creators to ensure that images, layouts and supporting materials complement the editorial message.

Adapt editorial content for different digital formats, including website articles, Instagram posts, carousels, captions and other social media publications.

Maintain editorial calendars, content pipelines, publication schedules and records of completed and upcoming materials.

Review content for clarity, consistency, tone, accuracy, accessibility and alignment with De Art's editorial identity.

Identify opportunities for interviews, collaborations, artist features and partnerships with galleries, museums, cultural institutions and independent art professionals.

Monitor audience engagement and editorial performance to identify subjects and formats that resonate with readers.

Use audience feedback and content performance insights to improve editorial planning and presentation.

Contribute ideas for expanding De Art's coverage of contemporary visual culture, digital art, photography, painting, sculpture, illustration, design and emerging artistic practices.

Maintain organized editorial archives, research notes, image references, source links and publication records.

Research developments in digital publishing, visual storytelling, online art media and new approaches to arts journalism.

Qualifications

Minimum BA/MA in Art History, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Arts Journalism, Cultural Studies, Media Studies, Communications or a related field.

At least 2–3 years of experience in arts writing, editing, digital publishing, cultural journalism, content development or a related field.

Demonstrable knowledge of visual arts, including familiarity with artists, artistic movements, art practices and contemporary visual culture.

Strong research, writing, editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to communicate artistic ideas clearly and accurately.

Ability to develop engaging editorial angles and transform research into accessible, well-structured digital content.

Experience producing or editing articles, artist profiles, interviews, exhibition reviews, cultural features or educational materials.

A strong visual sensibility and the ability to assess the editorial potential of artworks, images and visual narratives.

Understanding of editorial standards, source verification, attribution, copyright and image licensing.

Familiarity with digital publishing platforms, content management systems and website editorial workflows; WordPress experience is an advantage.

Experience creating or adapting content for social media platforms, particularly Instagram, is an advantage.

Understanding of content planning, SEO fundamentals, audience engagement and digital content performance.

Familiarity with photography, illustration, digital art, graphic design or other visual communication practices is beneficial.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple editorial assignments and deadlines.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with artists, writers, designers and other contributors.

Curiosity, attention to detail, editorial independence and a commitment to responsible cultural communication.

A portfolio or links to 3 relevant writing, editing, arts journalism or digital publishing projects required.

Fluency in English; proficiency in Persian or other languages is an advantage.
