ABOUT THE JOB
De Art is looking for a detail-oriented Digital Art Rights & Licensing Coordinator to support the responsible publication and digital use of artworks, photographs, artist materials, and visual content across our online platforms.
The role focuses on copyright, image permissions, licensing, artist approvals, attribution, and rights documentation. You will work closely with editorial, curatorial, design, social media, and digital production teams to ensure that visual materials are properly authorized, credited, documented, and ready for publication.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research copyright ownership, image rights, and usage status for artworks and visual materials.
- Identify and communicate with artists, galleries, museums, estates, photographers, archives, agencies, and other rights holders.
- Request, document, and track permissions for editorial and digital use of visual content.
- Maintain accurate records of licenses, permissions, usage conditions, expiration dates, territories, platforms, and required credit lines.
- Verify artist names, artwork titles, dates, ownership information, and attribution requirements before publication.
- Coordinate with editorial, curatorial, design, social media, and web teams regarding image rights and publication requirements.
- Identify potential rights issues involving third-party images, unclear ownership, expired permissions, or incomplete documentation.
- Maintain organized records of approvals, correspondence, licenses, and supporting documentation.
- Help establish practical internal workflows and checklists for obtaining and documenting image permissions.
- Support rights clearance for digital exhibitions, special editorial projects, interviews, artist features, and other De Art initiatives.
- Monitor licensing conditions and communicate relevant restrictions or changes to the appropriate teams.
- Assist in maintaining consistent copyright notices, image credits, and attribution across De Art's digital publications.
- Stay informed about general developments in digital copyright, image licensing, Creative Commons, and online content usage.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Art History, Arts Management, Cultural Studies, Publishing, Media, Law, Communications, or a related field.
- Strong interest in visual arts, contemporary culture, and digital publishing.
- Good understanding of basic copyright, image-rights, permissions, and licensing concepts.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Professional and confident communication with artists, institutions, galleries, and rights holders.
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets, databases, content management systems, and digital documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple permissions and follow-ups simultaneously.
- Previous experience in a gallery, museum, publishing organization, media company, archive, creative agency, or licensing environment is an advantage.
- Familiarity with digital image licensing, Creative Commons, artist estates, or cultural-sector rights management is a plus.
