Job Purpose:

The Director of Digital Innovation and AI leads experimental projects and strategic initiatives that explore new applications of emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data visualization. This role identifies future-oriented opportunities that enhance both internal workflows and public offerings. Collaborating across departments, the Director champions innovation while maintaining ethical standards and cultural sensitivity, ensuring that the Museum remains at the forefront of digital transformation within the cultural sector.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Strategy and Planning

  • Develop and implement innovative digital strategies and AI- powered experiences aligned with the museum's mission.
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies to support future initiatives.

Budget Management

  • Develop, manage, and monitor budgets for Digital Innovation & AI in collaboration with the Finance Department.

Policies, Processes, and Procedures

  • Establish protocols and best practices for digital integration within exhibitions.
  • Ensure compliance with digital accessibility and content standards.

Functional Accountabilities

  • Lead the conceptualization and execution of innovative digital projects, ensuring alignment with the museum's strategic objectives and enhancing visitor engagement through technology.
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and trends that could be leveraged to improve the museum's offerings and operational efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to design and implement AI-powered installations and digital exhibits that tell compelling stories and facilitate visitor interaction.
  • Oversee the development and execution of comprehensive digital strategies that encompass content creation, user experience, and digital marketing initiatives to increase brand visibility and audience reach.
  • Oversee the monitoring and analysis of visitor engagement data to assess the effectiveness of digital initiatives and make evidence- based recommendations for enhancements and improvements.
  • Ensure the establishment and maintenance of strategic partnerships with tech companies, educational institutions, and other cultural organizations to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaborative projects.
  • Ensure the organization and conduction of workshops, seminars, and training sessions for museum staff and stakeholders to enhance digital literacy and foster a culture of innovation.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build partnerships with tech firms, universities, and cultural institutions.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to support collaboration and alignment.

People Management

  • Lead cross-functional project teams including curators, educators, and developers.
  • Live by MoWC values, ethical standards, and governance.
  • Manage and support team members in performing their tasks in line with established policies and procedures.
  • Guide, mentor, and develop the Digital Innovation & AI team to ensure continuous growth and achievement of functional objectives.
  • Set clear performance goals, provide regular feedback, and support professional development through coaching and formal evaluations.
  • Delegate authority appropriately to empower team members and encourage accountability.
  • Contribute to workforce planning, recruitment, and performance management while promoting employee engagement and motivation.
  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative work culture aligned with the museum's values.
  • Promote innovation and contribute to a positive, inspiring, and diverse workplace.
  • Maintain high personal standards and ensure excellence across the section.

Job Qualifications and Requirements

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in digital innovation or related technology integration roles, preferably in the museum or cultural sector.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects from conception to completion.
  • Strong expertise in AI technologies (e.g., machine learning, NLP, HCI).
  • Experience in data analytics and evidence-based strategy development.
  • Familiarity with user experience design, digital marketing, and social media trends.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in digital Innovation, Human-Computer Interaction, AI, Cultural Technology, or related field is strongly preferred.

Personal capabilities and qualifications

  • Advanced project management skills, with proficiency in Agile methodologies and tools to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Strong technical acumen in digital technologies, including familiarity with programming languages and software development related to AI applications.
  • Proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools, including experience with platforms such as Tableau, Google Analytics, or similar technologies to interpret visitor data effectively.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to think outside the box and develop innovative solutions to challenges in digital contexts.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, demonstrating agility and adaptability to constantly evolving digital landscapes and audience needs.
