Job Summary
The Drilling Assistant - Offsider supports the drilling team in daily operations, ensuring safe and efficient execution of drilling activities. You will work closely with toolpushers, rig supervisors, and experienced drill crews to assist with equipment handling, basic maintenance, and data collection. This role is ideal for motivated individuals pursuing a career in the drilling industry and seeking hands-on experience on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist drilling crew with routine rig operations, including mud preparation, casing handling, and equipment hoisting
- Support safety protocols, participate in pre-shift safety briefings, and report hazards or incidents
- Monitor equipment condition and report maintenance needs to the supervisor
- Collect and record drilling data, measurements, and material quantities
- Help with housekeeping and organization of the rig floor and work areas
- Assist with loading, unloading, and transport of supplies and equipment on site
- Coordinate with toolpushers and supervisors to ensure efficient task execution
- Follow standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
- 2 - 5 years of experience in drilling operations or a related field
- Basic understanding of drilling rigs, equipment, and safety practices
- Valid driver's license and ability to work on a rotating shift roster
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to work in demanding outdoor environments
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions precisely
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a roustabout, roughneck, or offsider on a drilling site
- Familiarity with mud systems, casing, drilling fluids, and basic rig tooling
- Certifications in safety, first aid, or process safety (preferred)
