E-Commerce Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)

Location: Remote/Virtual.

Time Zone: India, 10:30am 7:30 pm IST / 9:00 am - 6:00 pm GST

Reports to: CEO

About Us

We are a profitable, founder-led eCommerce company selling directly to consumers via Amazon and Shopify, with customers primarily in North America and Europe. We're now ready for our next stage of growth and are hiring a CMO to own all growth, performance marketing, and sales channels.

Role Overview

The CMO is responsible for driving predictable, profitable revenue growth across:

  • Amazon (PPC, rankings, listings, reviews, CVR).
  • Currently selling in .com, .ca and soon launching in UK, EU, AUS

  • Shopify & Meta (FB/IG ads, CRO, email & SMS)
  • Currently in USA only

  • Creator Content (organic & paid creator content)

You will build and lead a small, high-output team (Amazon manager, PPC specialist, email agency, designers, data analyst, creators, etc.) and work closely with:

  • COO on inventory, 3PL/FBA and contribution margins
  • CPO on product launches, creative, and brand positioning
  • CFO on budgets and margin targets

Key Responsibilities

1. Growth Strategy & Budget

  • Own the annual and quarterly growth plan for Amazon + DTC.
  • Set and manage performance targets: revenue, channel ROAS, TACOS, contribution margin, CVR and more.
  • Allocate and re-allocate ad spend across channels.

2. Amazon (Primary Growth Channel)

  • Lead the Amazon growth pod: Amazon Manager, PPC Manager, listing/SEO support.
  • Own:
  • PPC structure & bids (search, sponsored brands, DSP/remarketing if used)
  • TACOS / ACOS targets and profitability by ASIN or portfolio
  • Listing optimization: titles, bullets, images, A+ content, storefront, experiments
  • Review health, ratings, and CX feedback loops
  • Plan and execute product launches, promotional events, and global marketplace expansion (e.g., CA/EU/UK).

3. Shopify & Meta

  • Own Shopify revenue and conversion rate.
  • Work with dev/UX to run ongoing CRO testsoffers, bundles, landing pages, cart/checkout, site speed.
  • Oversee FB/IG and other paid social:
  • Creative strategy and testing
  • Funnels (prospecting, retargeting, LTV campaigns)
  • ROAS/MER and per-country performance
  • Lead email & SMS:
  • Ensure robust flows (welcome, browse/cart abandonment, post-purchase, win-back, VIP, etc.)
  • Campaign calendar aligned with launches and promotions
  • Hit revenue contribution targets from email/SMS as % of Shopify sales.

4. Creators

  • Build a creator / influencer engine:
  • Identify and recruit creators aligned with the brand
  • Negotiate deals (UGC, whitelisting/Spark ads, revenue share)
  • Ensure a consistent flow of short-form content for Reels, and ads.
  • Test and scale ads (or similar platforms), with clear attribution and ROAS targets.

5. Leadership & Team Management

  • Manage and coach:
  • Amazon Manager & PPC specialist
  • Email/SMS agency and media buying partners
  • Data analyst (shared or part-time)
  • Creators & freelancers as needed
  • Work tightly with CPO on briefs for new product launches, creative angles, and content needed for funnels.
  • Work with COO to avoid stockouts, manage slow movers, and hit profit targets.

6. Analytics, Reporting & Decision-Making

  • Build a simple but robust dashboard for:
  • Channel performance: Amazon, Shopify, paid media, email/SMS
  • Key KPIs: revenue, MER, CAC, LTV, TACOS, repeat rate, AOV, conversion rate
  • Turn data into clear recommendations: scale/kill campaigns, adjust prices/offers, launch tests.
  • Report weekly and monthly to the CEO on performance vs. plan.

What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)

  • Clear growth plan and budget in place and followed.
  • Amazon TACOS and DTC MER are within target while revenue grows.
  • Key Amazon and Shopify SKUs show improved rankings and conversion rates.
  • Email/SMS flows and campaigns contribute a meaningful % of DTC revenue.
  • There is a repeatable creator/UGC pipeline supporting ads and organic content.
  • The marketing team is small, accountable, and works from a single shared dashboard.

Requirements (Must-Have)

  • 5-10 years total experience in digital marketing / growth, with at least 3+ years leading growth or performance marketing for a DTC/eCommerce brand or agency.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with Amazon + at least one other major channel (Shopify + FB/IG ads, or Google, etc.).
  • Proven track record of scaling revenue while staying profitable you've managed budgets of at least USD 50100k/month in ad spend.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Amazon PPC, SEO, and listing optimization
  • Paid social (FB/IG; bonus if TikTok)
  • Email/SMS lifecycle marketing
  • Basic CRO ideas and experimentation
  • Very data-driven: comfortable with KPIs, cohort retention, MER, CAC/LTV, channel attribution and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent English communication skills (written & spoken); comfortable working with US/Europe-based partners.
  • Experience working with remote and cross-border teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in home & lifestyle or other consumer product categories with repeat purchases.
  • Experience managing creative teams (copy + design + video).

Location & Work Setup

  • Base: Dubai, India, South Africa or Europe
  • Remote / hybrid, but must be able to overlap at least 45 hours/day with UAE & Europe time and occasionally with US time for calls with partners.
  • Occasional travel to ecommerce conferences, or content shoots as needed.
