Electro-Mechanical (E&M) Shelter Technician
JOB SUMMARY
The E&M Shelter Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and monitoring of all electro-mechanical systems within telecom shelter environments, including air conditioning/cooling units, power distribution systems, fire suppression, lighting, and structural shelter integrity. This role ensures that shelter environments remain operational and within defined environmental parameters to protect critical telecom equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all electro-mechanical systems within telecom shelters (AC units, HVAC, ventilation, fire detection & suppression)
· Inspect and maintain power distribution units (PDUs), UPS systems, breaker panels, and cabling within shelters
· Monitor shelter environmental conditions (temperature, humidity) and take corrective action as required
· Troubleshoot and repair shelter lighting, access control systems, and door/lock mechanisms
· Conduct regular structural inspections of shelter enclosures and report defects
· Coordinate with telecom NOC/network operations teams for shelter alarms and fault escalation
· Maintain service logs, maintenance checklists, and asset records for all shelter equipment
· Ensure shelter security, cleanliness, and compliance with health and safety standards
· Support installation of new shelter equipment and integrate systems during upgrades
· Respond to emergency shelter faults 24/7 as part of an on-call rota
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
· Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
· 2–5 years of field experience in shelter maintenance, HVAC, or telecom site operations
· Knowledge of AC/HVAC systems, UPS, power distribution, and shelter monitoring systems
· Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals
· Familiarity with BMS (Building Management Systems) and shelter alarm systems
· Valid driving license; ability to travel to remote sites
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Experience working in a telecom tower or data center environment
· Certification in HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical systems (e.g., EPA 608)
· Knowledge of fire safety systems (NFPA standards or equivalent)
· Experience with controlled environment vaults (CEVs) or similar enclosures
KEY COMPETENCIES
· Detail-oriented with strong preventive maintenance discipline
· Strong problem-solving skills in confined/remote work environments
· Ability to manage multiple shelter sites efficiently
· High sense of responsibility for equipment integrity and uptime
· Team player with good coordination and reporting skills
