Job Description

An Electrical Engineer specializing in Generator Installation and Maintenance is a high-level technical role responsible for the lifecycle of power generation systems. They ensure the reliability of backup and primary power sources across industries like healthcare, data centers, and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation & Commissioning:
  • Oversee the physical installation of diesel, gas, or renewable energy generators.
  • Design and implement wiring layouts, load distribution, and grounding systems for 480V to 15kV power systems.
  • Test and certify new installations to ensure they meet engineering specifications and safety codes.
  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance:
  • Develop and manage comprehensive Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Execute routine servicing, including oil changes, filter replacements, and system calibrations.
  • Use AI-driven predictive maintenance and IoT tools to monitor generator health and prevent failures.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair:
  • Diagnose complex electrical and mechanical faults in generators, control panels, and transfer switches.
  • Perform root-cause analysis for system failures and implement long-term technical fixes.
  • Lead emergency response for critical power outages on a 24/7 on-call basis.
  • Regulatory & Safety Compliance:
  • Ensure all work complies with international standards such as IEC, IEEE, and NEC, as well as local safety regulations like OSHA.
  • Implement strict lockout/tag-out procedures and conduct regular safety audits.

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is typically required; a Master's degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license is often preferred for senior roles.
  • Experience: Industry standard is 5–10 years of experience for senior roles, focusing on power generation and industrial maintenance.
  • Software Proficiency: Expertise in computer-aided design (CAD) like AutoCAD and power system analysis tools such as ETAP, SKM, or CYME.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Deep understanding of PLCs, SCADA systems, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and paralleling systems.
